WWE SmackDown Summary and Highlights
Paul Heyman interrupts Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes kicked off the show, asking what Cincinnati fans wanted to talk about, when suddenly, Paul Heyman appeared alongside Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. Heyman and the Bron Brons stepped onto the apron as Randy Orton made his entrance alongside Rhodes. Heyman apologized and introduced himself and his company.
He clarified that they hadn’t come out for Rhodes, but for Orton. Heyman mentioned that Orton wasn’t answering his calls, which was why they had cornered the Champion to ensure Orton appeared. As “RKO” chants erupted, Heyman continued, saying that tonight Rhodes and Orton would lose to Breakker and Reed.
He added that, when they lost, Orton would likely start thinking he could do better than Cody. Heyman kept stirring the pot between Rhodes and Orton, claiming this partnership couldn’t last. He declared it wasn’t just a spoiler, but a prophecy from The Oracle.
Grade: C+
Insights & Moments:
- For the nth time, Randy Orton glanced at the Undisputed title during the segment.
- Backstage, The Miz caught up with Carmelo Hayes, asking him to explain his actions from the previous night, insisting that they should be watching each other’s backs. Hayes shot back, saying that Miz was always in his way, adding that they were done. Miz tried to clarify the situation, but Hayes wasn’t having it and walked off, clearly not in the mood to talk.
Sami Zayn (c) vs Aleister Black – United States title Open Challenge
Sami Zayn awaited the challenger when Carmelo Hayes appeared, cutting a promo saying he no longer had anyone holding him back. However, before he could head to the ring, The Miz appeared, delivering the Skull Crushing Finale. Aleister Black appeared, picking up the mic and stating that he accepts the challenge.
The two stars clashed in the first match of the show, with Black landing punishing kicks and looking for pins one after the other. Damian Priest suddenly appeared ringside, causing the distraction as Zayn landed the Helluva Kick, followed by the Blue Thunder Bomb to pin Black and retain the title.
After the match, Priest cleared out the announce desk and dragged Black out of the ring to deliver a Razor’s Edge through the announce desk.
Winner: Sami Zayn
Grade: B+
Match Insights & Backstage Moments:
- This was Balck’s first singles title opportunity in WWE, Per Michael Cole.
- This marked their first meeting since their only televised match six years ago on SmackDown, which was won by Black.
- In a segment filmed earlier, Chelsea Green and Alba Fyre interrupted a conversation between Sol Ruca, Zaria and Nick Aldis. Green offered them Secret Service contracts, but Ruca quickly declined, leading to a brief back-and-forth between the two sides. As Green and Fyre stormed off, the confrontation led to a match being made.
Sol Ruca & Zaria vs Chelsea Green & Alba Fyre – Tag Team match
Zaria and Fyre started the action in the tag team match, with Zaria taking control early after delivering a flying clothesline from the ropes. Green and Fyre slowly took control of the action, but Ruca managed to counter Green’s finisher to hit the Sol Snatcher and pin Green to take home the win.
Winner: Sol Ruca & Zaria
Grade: B
Match Insights & Backstage Moments:
- A short match that ended just as soon as it picked up pace; nevertheless, it was a decent match, and Ruca continues to impress with her in-ring skills.
- After the match, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair were interviewed backstage. Flair praised Sol Ruca, saying she looked impressive, while Bliss highlighted the similarities between their two teams. They both agreed that when Ruca and her partner are ready to challenge them, they’d better be prepared.
Tiffany Stratton & Stephanie Vaquer Crown Jewel Contract Signing
GM Nick Aldis stood in the ring and welcomed WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton. Aldis then introduced Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer. Vaquer took the mic, expressing respect for Stratton. She mentioned that although she’d only been Champion for two weeks, she would show up at Crown Jewel to defend her title.
Stratton returned the praise, acknowledging Vaquer before declaring that at Crown Jewel, only one woman would walk out with the title, and it would be her, because it’s always “Tiffy Time.” Stratton signed the contract and handed it to Vaquer, who signed it in return, officially making the match between the two.
Aldis made the announcement, and both women posed for photographs before Stratton left the ring. However, as she was near the entrance ramp, Giulia attacked Stratton. Kiana James then approached Aldis, asking him not to notarize the contract. James addressed Vaquer, suggesting they could turn her into a superstar if she agreed to her services.
She went on to say she had taken Giulia to the top and could do the same for Vaquer, making her the Crown Jewel Champion. Stratton pulled James out of the ring and took her down, but as Giulia attempted to attack Vaquer, she narrowly escaped a SVB attempt. James and Giulia then retreated.
Grade: C
Insights & Backstage Moments:
- The Contract Signing was as bland as it gets when two babyfaces collide and no one wants to take the cheap shot. With that said, the Crown Jewel clash will definitely deliver as promised.
- WWE had the chance to bring up the history between Vaquer and Giulia in NXT.
- Before the segment, Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton shared a brief but reassuring conversation backstage, confirming that they were still good. The moment ended with a fist bump.
Rey Fenix & Je’Von Evans vs Los Garzas (Angel & Berto) -Tag Team match
In “earlier today” footage, Nick Aldis was seen talking to Je’Von Evans, encouraging him to stay in touch and assuring him that he had a bright future on SmackDown. Rey Fenix then arrived to congratulate Evans on his recent match with Sami Zayn, but soon after, Los Garza (Angel & Berto) showed up, mocking Aldis and asking if he was babysitting. The back and forth led to a tag match being set up.
Berto and Je’Von started the action, with Los Garzas taking control early and isolating Evans, who, despite punishment, managed to tag in Fenix. Once Evans got going, he almost took out the cameraman during a suicide dive on Garza.
In the closing moments of the match, Evans delivered the OG Cutter, taking out Angel, while Fenix took out Berto with the Mexican Muscle Buster to secure the win against Los Garzas.
Winner: Rey Fenix & Je’Von Evans
Grade: B
Match Insights & Backstage Moments:
- Evans accidentally took out a cameraman when he hit a suicide dive during the final moments.
- Before the match, Jacob Fatu delivered a promo where he made it clear that he wouldn’t stand for disrespect. He warned that he would wake people up when they sleep on him, letting them know that underestimating him would be a big mistake.
- Damian Priest was interviewed backstage, where he addressed Aleister Black’s recent attacks. Kit Wilson then wheeled up to him, criticizing him for his toxic masculinity. With great effort, Kit stood up, but Priest mockingly applauded before shoving him back into his wheelchair and kicking it down the hallway. Priest then declared that he would take things as far as necessary and challenged him to a Last Man Standing match next week.
Cody Rhodes & Randy Orton vs The Vision (Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed) – Tag Team match
In the main event of the show, the team of Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton took on Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. Orton took control of the action after a short offense from Breakker, but an interference from Paul Heyman helped Reed attack Orton on the announce desk and turn the tide in their favor.
Breakker and Reed isolated Orton, delivering further punishment until he was able to tag in Rhodes, who soon fell prey to the numbers game. Rhodes then confronted Breakker after the latter broke a pin attempt by Orton. The sequence ended with Breakker taking out Rhodes through the barricade with a flying clothesline.
Back in the ring, Orton hit the trademark scraping DDT from the ropes and signaled for the RKO, but once again, Paul Heyman distracted the official. Seth Rollins appeared and took out Orton with a vicious stomp. Bronson Reed seized the opportunity, delivering the Tsunami to pick up the win in the main event.
After the match, Rollins yelled at Breakker and Reed, furious, declaring that Cody was his and seething with anger. Paul Heyman tried to calm him down, pleading with him not to go back into the ring.
Rollins ignored him, darting into the ring to deliver a stomp, but Cody Rhodes quickly turned it around, hitting Rollins with the Cross Rhodes. Heyman intervened, preventing Breakker and Reed from entering the ring as the show came to an end.
Winner: The Vision (Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed)
Grade: B
Match Insights & Backstage Moments:
- Bron Breakker has made mocking the crowd while dominating his opponents a signature part of his matches.
- Before the match, Solo Sikoa appeared in another vignette, praising the virtues of his MFTs, this time focusing on Talla Tonga. Solo explained that Tonga had a monster inside him that needed to be unleashed. Once again, Talla placed a hand on Solo’s shoulder and told him he loved him. Sikoa responded, saying he loved all of them, but something was missing. He promised that once he found that missing piece, everyone would be put on notice.
- Before the main event, B-FAB and the Street Profits were interviewed backstage, where they reassured everyone that Ford and Dawkins were on the same page. Just then, a TV behind them started glitching, and Wyatt Sicks appeared on screen. Erick Rowan asked if the Street Profits would still consider themselves family when everything came crashing down. Joe Gacy chimed in, saying their house was burning around them. Dexter Lumis warned that they’d choke on the smoke they claimed to want, while Nikki Cross ominously stated it would all turn to nothing but ashes. Finally, Rowan dropped a chilling “Run.”
