Cody retains, Roman returns, Randy returns, Andrade defeats Carmelo, Roman & Cody vs Roman to team up at Bad Blood & much more!

The September 13, 2024 episode of WWE SmackDown is the Season Premiere special edition, which marks the return of SmackDown into the USA Network. It is one of the must watch episode of SmackDown in recent times, as WWE booked the show with a pay-per-view level matches and segments. Get to know what happened on SmackDown this week, as we came out with the complete show summary, highlights, results and winner’s list.

SmackDown Summary & Highlights

Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque

WWE’s Chief Content Officer Triple H introduces the WWE Universe for a new season of SmackDown on the USA Network. Triple H feels like he made his first appearance on SmackDown yesterday, but now it is 25 years. Triple H sets the stage for the new era of SmackDown, which kicks off with Cody Rhodes vs Solo Sikoa’s Undisputed WWE Championship Steel Cage Match!

The match begins with a staredown and Cody Rhodes taking the fight to Solo Sikoa. Solo fights back with a uppercut and a corner splash. Cody steps out and deliver a bulldog and Cody drives Solo face first to the steel cage for a serirs of times. Solo sends Cody to the cage. He is locked between the rope and cage. Solo with a splash and a wrecking ball. Solo lays Cody upside down on the corner and delivers a running headbutt. He goes for another, but Cody escapes and climbs the cage. Solo pulls his leg and Cody is bleeding.

Cody push Cody to the cage again and again. Solo headbutts the wounded head. Solo slows it down. Cody tries for a disaster kick, but Solo caught him mid air and drive him back first to the steel cage. Solo tries to powerbomb, but Cody uses the cage to escape and deliver a Cody cutter from the mid-cage.

Cody tries to escape the cage, but Solo pulls him down. Now Solo climbs the cage and Cody joins him on top of the rope. Cody drives Solo’ head on the cage. Cody sat on top of the cage and he is hanging. Solo delivered a super-plex from the top rope. Solo goes for the cover, but Cody kicks out. Solo asks to open the door, but Cody caught hus leg. Cody slaps him and this made Solo deliver a couple of Spinning Solo, but only for a nearfall.

Solo measures for a Samoan Spike, Codh blocks and strikes back. The American Nightmare connects a couple of Cody cutter, but Solo kicks out. Solo blocks the Cross Rhodes to take the champ to the corner for a corner splash and a Samoan Drop. Solo continues with a Samoan Splash from the top rope, but Cody kicks-out.

Solo connects with a wrecking ball in the corner and Cody tries to escape the cage through the door. Solo pulls him in, but Cody performed a Cross Rhodes for two. Cody climbs the top rope and he stands on the top of the cage. The champ delivered a crossbody from the top of the cage, only for a nearfall. Cody tries to to escape the cage using the door. Solo pulls him in again. He tries for a Samoan Spike, but Cody delivered a Cross Rhodes to pin Solo Sikoa to win the match.

The Bloodline’s cage invasion & Roman Reigns return

The Bloodline surrounded the cage and they invade the steel cage. Solo Sikoa performed a Samoan Spike on Cody & Tonga Loa slams him. Jacob Fatu performed a Splash. Solo asks Jacob to limb the top of the cage and Roman Reigns music stopped him.

Roman Reigns enters the steel cage, locks the door and goes after Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa. Roman sends Tongans to the cage, but Solo Sikoa strikes him from the back. Roman performed a Superman punch on Solo. Roman measures him for a spear, but Jacob Fatu saved Solo from the cage.

Roman calls Fatu to the ring, but Solo wants his Enforcer out. Tama Tonga attacks Roman from the back and both the Tongans attack Cody. However, Cody saved Roman performing a Cross Rhodes on Tama and Roman speared Loa. Roman and Cody stand tall and Solo with Jacob Fatu stood outside with the Ula Fala and point both of them.

Backstage

Nick Aldis spoke about the new chaotic start of the new season. He said that Solo Sikoa met him and said that he looks to handle business teaming with Jacob Fatu, and take on both Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes. However, he went to make it official.

Piper Niven vs Michin

Michin counters Piper Niven’s initial strike to send her out of the ring and perform a suicide dive. Michin with a roundhouse kick toom Chelsea Green down and strikes with the kendo stick. Niven performed a cannon ball from the apron and toom Michin inside the ring. Niven goes for the rope for a splash, but Michin stopped her with a back drop and Eat thr Defeat to win the match.

After the match, Green attacked Michin from the back, Niven delivers a Senton. Chelsea took a trash can in and performed an Unpretty-her to make the statement.

A-Town Down Under vs Kevin Owens & Randy Orton

Kevin Owens said that his actual tag team partner has some travel issues and didn’t made it to here, but brought a rookie named Rickie to join him. A backstage staff confirmed Owens that he is here and Owens stunned Rickie and Randy Orton is the actual mystery partner of Owens.

Kevin Owens and Grayson Waller start the match. Thoery saves Waller from KO dragging him out. Orton took a long tun to take Theiry with a clothesline. Waller pushed Orton to the ring post. Owens attacked Waller and took him to the ring and fights Theory. However Waller with a suicide dive and a back drop on Owens over the announcement table taunts Orton with the signature pose.

After the commercial, Owens with a clothesline took Theory down, but Waller tags in and stopped Owens from tagging Randy Orton. Waller took Owens to the top rope, but Owens headbutts him down. Theory tags in and tries to stop KO, but Owens took him down and performed a frog splash on Theory.

Owens is close to tag Orton, but Waller pulls Orton’s leg from outside and takes Owens outsidw the ring. Owens toom Waller and Theory and tries to tag Randy again, but Waller and Theory took him to their corner. Owens escapes the ring and ran to reach to reach the other corner to tag Randy.

Orton is fired up performing clothesline and back dropping both Waller and Theory on the announcement table. Randy took Waller to the ring, measuring for a floating DDT and Owens joins him. Both delivered a DDT. Orton performs RKO on Waller and Kevin Owens performed a Stunner on Waller. Orton pinned Theory to win the match.

Backstage

Nick Aldis said that Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu wants Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns at Bad Blood and they signed the contract. He needs to sign Cody and Roman to make it official. However, Cody met him and said that he is done with Bloodline and it is all Roman’s problem now. Cody is not signing the contract and Aldis went on to speak with Roman Reigns.

Bayley & Naomi confront Nia Jax & Tiffany Stratton

Nia Jax heared from Nick Aldis that she will be defending her WWE Women’s Championship at Bad Blood. She doesn’t care who her opponent is, as she gonna be Annihilated. Bayley interrupted her asking for a rematch, but Jax stopped her saying that she doesn’t own anything to call for a match. Jax said that she runs SmackDown all by herself, and Bayley asked then why she is using the help of Tiffany Stratton.

Miss Money in the Bank Tiffany Stratton interrupted Bayley to join Nia Jax and tried to tease Bayley, but Bayley turned the things by trying to create a problem between the two. Jax and Stratton warned her and Naomi interrupted them. Naomi also wants the title shot and Jax gave an offer. If Bayley and Naomi beat them next week, she will offer the title shot to the winner. However, if they got defeated, they should leave SmackDown permanently.

Backstage

Nick Aldis met Roman Reigns and came with an update. Roman told him, that he will be live tonight to address the situation.

Andrade vs Carmelo Hayes

Before Andrade makes his return and takes his jacket off, Carmelo Hayes went for a cheap shot. The bell rand and the match officially begins with Hayes having the initial control using the pre-match atrack as an advantage. Andrade sends Hayes outside the ring and delivered a Moonsault from the middle rope to outside the ring. Hayes fights back chopping Andrade, but Andrade took Hayes down and stood on top of the barricade. Melo joins him and Andrade delivered a Spanish fly from the top of the barricade to the floor.

Back inside the ring, Andrade misses the double knee and Hayes delivered sptingboard crossbody. Bith counter each others move. Hayes delivered the codebreaker. Andrade counters with a back elbow. Andrade goes for the double spin moonsault, but Melo has his knees up.

Melo lays Andrade down, misses nothing but net, Andrade misses the message, but delivered a Canadian Destroyer. He follows up with a double knees, but Melo has his hands on rope. Melo escapes the moonsault and took him to the top rope. Andrade delivers the message on Hayes from the top rope to pick up the win and end the rivalry with 3-2 lead.

LA Knight gives Andrade a US Championship title shot

LA Knight popped out interrupting Andrade’s celebration. He says that Andrade is the next challenger for the US title and their match is next week. Knight drops the spoilers saying that Knight will still be the champion.

Backstage Interview

Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill were interviewed backstage. They are the fighting champions and they ask anyone to step in, if they wanted the titles. Nia Jax and Tiffany Stratton met them. Jax says that she defeated both of them to win the Queen of the ring and says that SmackDown is hers.

‘OTC’ Roman Reigns was live

Nick Aldis tries to address the situation, but Roman asks the mic. Roman said that something is changed, but not him. He doesn’t want Aldis and contract. This is the family business. Roman says that, no matter if he has the Ula Fala or not, he will be the Tribal Chief. Roman claims that this is his show and Cody Rhodes interferes him. He steps inside the ring to confront Roman and asks for the mic.

Cody address Roman’s claim and said that it is not Roman’s ring and his WWE. It used to be, but not after WrestleMania. Bith drop their mic for a staredown. Solo Sikoa with Jacob Fatu interrupts them. Roman and Cody Rhodes have their focus on Solo and Fatu, but Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa attacked them from the back. Cody performed a Cody cutter from the top rope on Tama Tonga and Roman performed a Rock bottom on Tonga Loa.

Roman signed the contract and Cody signed the contract too. With this Roman Reigns & Cody Rhodes vs Solo Sikoa & Jacob Fatu made official for Bad Blood.

SmackDown results

  • Cody Rhodes defeated Solo Sikoa to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship by pinfall inside the steel cage.
  • Roman Reigns made his return to take down The Bloodline.
  • Michin defeated Piper Niven by pinfall. After the match, Chelsea Green performed Unprettyher on Michin over the trash can.
  • Kevin Owens & Randy Orton defeated Austin Theory & Grayson Waller by pinfall.
  • Andrade defeated Carmelo Hayes by pinfall and becomes the next challenger for the United States Championship.
  • Roman Reigns & Cody Rhodes vs Solo Sikoa & Jacob Fatu match confirmed for Bad Blood.
