The go-home edition of SmackDown before SummerSlam gets its first announced match.
The July 24 edition of Friday Night SmackDown concluded at the Oakland Arena in Oakland, California, with just over a week left until SummerSlam.
During the show, a backstage segment saw Damian Priest explain to R-Truth that their WWE Tag Team Championship defense against War Raiders (Erik & Ivar) was not scheduled for that night, but for next week’s episode instead. That confirms the first official match for the go-home edition of SmackDown ahead of SummerSlam.
Tag Team Championship on the line as SmackDown heads to Green Bay
Wepa Up (Damian Priest & R-Truth) will defend the WWE Tag Team Championship against War Raiders (Erik & Ivar) on next week’s show. The full terms of the match, including whether it will be contested for the WWE title alone or as a champions vs champions bout, have not yet been detailed.
Apart from the title match, next week’s show will serve as the final go-home edition of SmackDown before SummerSlam, which airs as a two-night event on August 1 and August 2 from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Next week’s July 31 edition of WWE SmackDown will air live from the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
