Randy Orton’s fake apology set the tone on the March 20 show of WWE SmackDown.
The March 20 edition of Friday Night SmackDown emanated live from the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, and it was one of the most gripping nights on the road to WrestleMania 42.
Randy Orton came out first and fully embraced The Viper, declaring that he would beat Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. “I hear voices in my head. They counsel me. They understand. They talk to me,” Orton said, before adding that those voices tell him he will become a 15-time world champion.
Later in the night, Orton returned to the ring in a completely different mood. He smiled, high-fived fans, and claimed he owed everyone an apology, starting with Matt Cardona, whom he had attacked backstage earlier.
Cardona came out, the two shook hands and even hugged, but then Orton promptly kicked him low, hit an RKO, sent him to the floor, punched him on the announce table, and ended the assault by placing a steel chair on Cardona’s arm and stomping on it. The entire segment mirrored his attack on Cody Rhodes the week before.
Orton then announced he plans to issue that same kind of “apology” to Cody Rhodes next week on SmackDown. Meanwhile, Damian Priest and R-Truth won the WWE Tag Team titles, and Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu ended the show by falling off a railing outside the arena after brawling throughout the entire broadcast.
Giulia gets her Women’s US Title opportunity against Tiffany Stratton

Following a strong run of momentum on SmackDown, Giulia will be defending her Women’s US Championship.
The Japanese star will face Tiffany Stratton for the title next Friday in Pittsburgh. Stratton has been one of the most dominant women on the brand, and this promises to be a hard-hitting, high-stakes clash heading into WrestleMania 42.
The Women’s US Title picture just got a lot more interesting, and all eyes will be on PPG Paints Arena to see if “Tiffy Time” continues or if Giulia makes history.
Kit Wilson vs Jelly Roll is officially on for next week
After Wilson blindsided Jelly Roll with a cowardly attack this past Friday, the match is now set. Wilson had been antagonising the Grammy-winning artist throughout the night before eventually jumping him without warning, leaving the WWE Universe furious.
Next week, Jelly Roll gets his chance to settle the score inside the ring on WWE SmackDown, and the crowd in Pittsburgh will be firmly behind him.
Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair take on The Bella Twins next week
After The Bella Twins made their shocking return and inserted themselves into the Women’s Tag Team title picture on SmackDown, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss will now square off against Nikki and Brie Bella next week.
The match is set to be a high-stakes showdown with WrestleMania 42 just around the corner, and both teams will be looking to prove they deserve championship gold heading into the biggest event of the year.
