WWE NXT star tempting AJ Lee to make her WWE return

AJ Lee last appeared on WWE programming in March 2015

AJ Mendez better known among pro wrestling fans as AJ Lee has been speculated to return to the WWE ever since her husband and WWE star CM Punk made a return to the company at the 2023 Survivor Series.

Former Divas Champion AJ Lee has not been seen in the WWE ring since her departure in 2015. Lee announced her retirement from the WWE due to a cervical spine injury.

Following her WWE debut, Lee quickly rose to prominence in the promotion and was involved in many major storylines during that time. Mendez became one of the biggest names in the company during her reign as the Divas Champion.

Mendez has won the Divas Championship a record-tying three times, she is tied with retired WWE star Eve Torres. She had the longest combined reign as Divas Champion, at 406 days.

Cora Jade Still Holding Out Hope for AJ Lee’s WWE Return

WWE star Cora Jade, who is currently competing in the NXT brand has revealed that she is still trying to persuade the former Divas champion to Return to the promotion.

Jade told Scott Fishman of TV Insider, that she is still working to get the star to return. “I don’t know. I hope so. I’m working on it. Me and Roxy are always badgering [Punk] about it. I know he is doing it to her as well, so we’ll see. If it happens, you’ll have to thank me.”

Jade and Roxanne Perez frequently cite the former Divas champion as their inspiration for pursuing pro wrestling. The duo is humorously nicknamed Lee and Punk’s ‘daughters’ a playful reference that both Punk and Lee enjoy embracing.

Following her departure, AJ Lee has worked as a writer and has written her memoir, ‘Crazy Is My Superpower: How I Triumphed by Breaking Bones, Breaking Hearts, and Breaking the Rules’, the memoir was published by Crown Archetype in 2017.

The former Divas Champion joined the Women of Wrestling (WOW) promotion as an executive producer in October 2021 after spending six years away from the pro-wrestling world. She departed from WOW in August 2023.

Lee is currently writing her own comic book series, Day of the Dead Girl. The first issue of the book was released on October 9, 2024.
