The longtime rivals deliver an unforgettable battle as Roman Reigns survives Seth Rollins to remain World Heavyweight Champion.
Roman Reigns once again proved why he remains at the top of WWE, defeating Seth Rollins in an instant classic to retain the World Heavyweight Championship during the main event of Night 2 of SummerSlam 2026.
The latest chapter in one of WWEâs greatest rivalries featured everything fans expected, brutal strikes, memorable callbacks to The Shield, broken announce tables, stolen finishing moves and an incredible display of resilience from both superstars.
After surviving one of the toughest title defenses of his reign, Reigns put Rollins away with a devastating trio of Spears to leave Minneapolis still holding the World Heavyweight Championship.
Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins trade momentum in brutal championship clash
The match began with an emotional nod to their shared history when Seth Rollins offered Roman Reigns a Shield vest. Reigns refused the gesture, throwing the vest to the ringside before the two cautiously sized each other up. The respect quickly disappeared as both men exchanged shoulder blocks, headlocks and heavy strikes.
Rollins found the first opening with a Sling Blade before unloading with chops and punches in the corner. Reigns answered with a thunderous clothesline and continued wearing down the challenger with heavy right hands and a massive big boot.
The action soon spilled outside the ring. Rollins built momentum by connecting with three consecutive suicide dives before attempting a fourth, only for Reigns to cut him off with a perfectly timed right hand.
From there, the champion regained control by delivering a Drive-By before launching Rollins over the barricade. The fight continued through the crowd, where Reigns countered a suplex attempt with one of his own onto the exposed steel flooring.
Rollins answered moments later with a spectacular knee strike before Reigns planted him through the Spanish announce table with a thunderous powerbomb.
The challenger refused to stay down, responding by powerbombing Reigns through another announce table before dragging himself back into the ring.
Roman Reigns survives everything Rollins throws at him
Back inside the ring, Rollins nearly captured the championship after connecting with the Pedigree, but Reigns kicked out. The champion answered with a Superman Punch, only for Rollins to survive the ensuing cover before delivering a Stomp that also resulted in another dramatic near fall.
Both men continued emptying their arsenals. Rollins landed a superplex and attempted a Falcon Arrow before Reigns countered into a Guillotine choke. The champion later delivered a Spear, but Rollins somehow kicked out once again.
The match then paid another tribute to The Shield. Roman Reigns stunned Rollins with Dirty Deeds, the signature DDT made famous by former Shield teammate Dean Ambrose (now Jon Moxley in AEW).
Rollins responded moments later by connecting with the Lunatic Lariat, another move synonymous with Ambrose, as the longtime rivals honored the legacy of one of WWEâs greatest factions. Even Michael Cole on commentary mentioned Ambrose.
In a fitting continuation of their rivalry, the two also stole each otherâs signature offense. Reigns hit Rollins with a Buckle Bomb followed by a Stomp, but even that wasnât enough to keep the challenger down.
With the official down, Rollins retrieved a steel chair from ringside. Rather than use the weapon, Reigns tossed it away, choosing to finish the battle without outside assistance.
After another exchange of Superman Punches, Pedigrees and near falls, Rollins attempted one final aerial Stomp from the top rope. Reigns rolled clear, exploded off the ropes with a crushing Spear and immediately followed with two more devastating Spears. This time, there was no escape.
Reigns hooked the leg for the decisive three-count, retaining the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after one of the most physically demanding matches of his reign.
Post-match, in a moment of mutual respect, the two set aside their differences to pose for the cameras, signalling the end of the iconic chapter.
