John Cena made his final WWE SummerSlam appearance
Cody Rhodes finally reached the mountaintop once again, dethroning John Cena in a heart-pounding, violent, and emotional main event to capture the WWE Undisputed Championship at SummerSlam 2025.
This brutal battle headlined the second night of WWE’s first-ever two-night SummerSlam and delivered everything a championship clash should: blood, steel, emotion, and respect.
The match began with tension and mutual admiration, as Cena even leaned in for a hug before fists flew. The fight quickly escalated to the outside with Cena hurling Rhodes into steel steps.
He later used Tyrese Haliburton’s crutch at ringside and even launched the bottom half of the steps into Cody’s ribs. In return, Rhodes struck back with chair shots and mounted his own offensive inside the ring.
From dropkicks and cutters to a moonsault, Rhodes pushed Cena to the limit. But the champion had answers for everything, including an Attitude Adjustment through the Spanish announce table and a punishing STF using the ring ropes for leverage.
John Cena went nuclear, but Cody Rhodes refused to quit
As the war raged on, Cena went to extreme measures, pulling out a Slim Jim table, hurling Cody from his entrance elevator down the ramp, and battering him with barricades. Still, Rhodes refused to stay down. He even returned fire with a steel turnbuckle bar, blasting Cena twice, but the veteran wouldn’t quit.
The sequence of Cross Rhodes attempts became more desperate as Cena repeatedly kicked out. Rhodes’ frustration mounted until he unscrewed the bottom rope and used it to trap Cena in a sleeper hold. Cena fired back with a second rope Attitude Adjustment and more punishment, but Cody refused to die.
In the match’s climax, Cena tried another avalanche AA through a table, but Cody reversed into a devastating Avalanche Cody Cutter through the wood. Staggering to his feet, Cody saluted Cena, hit three Cross Rhodes in succession and finally kept the 17-time champion down.
Winner: Cody Rhodes wins by pinfall, becoming the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
‘The Beast’ Brock Lesnar is back

Post-match, Cena handed Cody the championship, shared an emotional embrace, and raised his hand in a sign of respect. It looked like the perfect send-off, until Brock Lesnar’s music hit.
The Beast stormed the ring and ambushed Cena, hitting a brutal F5 to close out SummerSlam on a shocking note.
