WWE SummerSlam 2026 Results: Liv Morgan triumphs over Iyo Sky to retain Women's World title in first defense

Liv Morgan survives a thrilling challenge from Iyo Sky with outside interference from Judgment Day.
Liv Morgan successfully retained the WWE Women’s World Championship at SummerSlam 2026, overcoming a determined Iyo Sky in a fast-paced contest that featured dramatic near falls, breathtaking aerial offense and crucial outside interference.
The bout marked Morgan’s first televised Women’s World Championship defense since capturing the title at WrestleMania 42. It was also only her fifth televised match since April, but the champion showed little sign of ring rust against one of WWE’s most accomplished competitors.
Despite Iyo Sky coming within inches of reclaiming the championship on multiple occasions, Morgan capitalized on a late opening to extend her reign on one of WWE’s biggest stages.
Iyo Sky pushes Liv Morgan to the limit
The match began with both women exchanging holds before Sky used her speed to take early control. Morgan answered with aggressive strikes, bouncing Sky off the turnbuckles before taunting the SummerSlam crowd.
Sky quickly shifted momentum with a slingshot double knee strike before dazzling the audience with a pair of handsprings, a basement dropkick and a flurry of offense that forced Morgan to retreat outside the ring.
Morgan regained control by pulling Sky off the apron before driving her into the LED barricade. Back inside the ring, the champion slowed the pace with stomps and kicks before paying tribute to Eddie Guerrero by delivering the Three Amigos suplex sequence.
After completing the trio of suplexes, Morgan performed Guerrero’s signature shoulder shimmy before connecting with a basement enzuigiri for a near fall.
Sky responded with a blistering comeback, unloading with a Shotei uppercut, a flapjack, a missile dropkick and a double kip-up that energized the crowd before delivering a devastating Bullet Train Attack in the corner.
The challenger then produced one of the night’s biggest moments, launching herself from the apron with a spectacular sunset flip powerbomb that sent Morgan crashing to the arena floor.
Outside interference proves decisive as Morgan retains
As Sky looked poised to finish the match, Roxanne Perez climbed onto the ring apron to distract the referee, allowing Women’s Intercontinental Champion Raquel Rodriguez to shove Sky off the top rope.
Morgan attempted to capitalize immediately but could only manage a two-count.
Sky refused to stay down and soon wiped out both Perez and Rodriguez with an incredible moonsault to the outside before returning her attention to the champion.
The momentum continued to swing back and forth as Sky countered Ob-Liv-ion, hit a breathtaking Spanish Fly and came within a heartbeat of victory, but Morgan somehow kicked out.
Sky even turned Morgan’s own finishing move against her by countering into an inverted STO before connecting with an Ob-Liv-ion of her own. Once again, the champion survived.
Late in the match, Sky delivered a German Suplex on the apron followed by another Bullet Train Attack into the ring post, but injured her knee in the process. That proved to be the turning point.
Sky attempted one final Over the Moonsault, but Morgan got her knees up. As Sky recovered, Morgan struck with a perfectly timed codebreaker before finally connecting with Ob-Liv-ion to score the decisive three-count.
The victory keeps Liv Morgan’s Women’s World Championship reign alive and reinforces her position atop WWE‘s women’s division as SummerSlam heads into its second night.
