Money in the Bank briefcase was a nightmare for many!
WWE has almost reached the finish line for its next International Premium Live Event, WWE Money in the Bank. The year’s highly anticipated show will take place on Saturday, July 5, at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The event has a rich history of its own in regard to the winners of the Money in the Bank ladder match. While the female side has a 100% successful cash-in record, the men’s competitors cannot say the same. Let’s take a look at the top five WWE Superstars who wasted their MITB cash-in opportunity.
5. Mr. Kennedy
Mr. Kennedy won the Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania 24 in the second-ever MITB match. Despite cashing it in, Kennedy defended his MITB contract on the line against Edge. It became a huge mistake of his career, as The Ultimate Opportunist took advantage and pinned him in a one-on-one match to win his briefcase on RAW and successfully cash it in on The Undertaker on the following SmackDown to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.

4. Braun Strowman
The Monster Among Men Braun Strowman outlasted a top field of WWE superstars to become Mr. Money in the Bank in 2018. Unlike other superstars who chose an opportunistic moment, Strowman announced to cash in the contract in a match against then-WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at the Hell in a Cell event inside the demonic structure. Despite earning the disqualification win, Strowman did not win the title thanks to a timely interference by Brock Lesnar.
3. Baron Corbin
The initial main roster run of Baron Corbin’s WWE career looked promising, as he won the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal & followed by the Money in the Bank ladder match win. However, he ultimately failed to cash in successfully, due to a timely distraction by his rival, John Cena. This allowed then-WWE Champion, Jinder Mahal to roll him up for the pin and retain his championship.

2. Otis
Otis was riding the wave of momentum in 2020 and that ongoing popularity led him to win the Money in the Bank ladder match held that year at the WWE headquarters. However, he never got the moment to cash in his hard-won briefcase. Otis put his contract against The Miz and lost the match and his contract. Miz cashed in the contract on Drew McIntyre at the 2021 Elimination Chamber to become a two-time WWE Champion.
1. John Cena
One of the most prominent names to waste a golden opportunity like the Money in the Bank contract was the golden goose of WWE at the time, John Cena. The Cenation Leader won the ladder match in 2013 at the name-sake event and announced his cash-in against then-WWE Champion CM Punk on the 1000th episode of Monday Night RAW.
During the final moments, Cena was so close to becoming the world champion again, but Big Show interfered and attacked him to cause a disqualification. Cena won the match, however the championship didn’t change hands.
