Here are WWE Stars who won both the Universal title & Royal Rumble match
WWE is one of the greatest professional wrestling promotions in the world, which is the hub of some of the top professional wrestlers and most successful shows. The ultimate goal of every wrestler is to win some of the big matches and big titles of the company. Two such big wins are the Royal Rumble match and the Universal Championship. Here we take a look at the top four WWE Superstars to win the Universal title and Royal Rumble match.
4. Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins is a two-time Universal Champion and one-time Royal Rumble winner. Rollins won the 2019 Men’s Rumble match and used the championship opportunity at WrestleMania 35 against Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship and won his first Universal title. Rollins held the title for 98 days and lost it back to Lesnar. Rollins at SummerSlam 2019 took his revenge on Lesnar and won the Universal title for the second time and held it for 80 days.
3. Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar is a three-time Universal Champion and a two-time Royal Rumble winner. Lesnar first won the Rumble match in 2002 and won his second Rumble twenty years later in 2022. Brock won his first universal title at WrestleMania 33 by defeating Goldberg and held the title for a record-setting 503 days.
Lesnar won the Universal title for the second time at 2018 Crown Jewel defeating Roman Reigns & Braun Strowman and held the title for 156 days. Lesnar won the title for the third time at Extreme Rules by cashing in his MITB contract, however lost it in 28 days.
2. Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes is a two-time Royal Rumble winner and a one-time Universal Champion. Cody first won the Rumble match in 2023 & again won the Rumble match the next year, to mark the first wrestler to win the back-to-back Rumble match after 1998. Cody used his 2024 Rumble win to challenge Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL to win the Undisputed WWE Universal title for the very first time. The title is then recognized as the Undisputed WWE Championship, retiring the name ‘Universal’.
1. Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns is a two-time Universal Champion and one-time Royal Rumble winner. Roman won the Royal Rumble in 2015. He won his first Universal Championship at SummerSlam 2018, by defeating Brock Lesnar. Roman held the title for 63 days and vacated his title due to a diagnosis of leukemia.
Reigns won his second Universal Championship at Payback 2020 defeating Braun Strowman & The Fiend. Roman held the title for 1316 days and it is the longest reign for the title. Roman merged the title with the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 38 to become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. Roman lost the title at WrestleMania 40 Night 2 to Cody Rhodes.
