Penta made his WWE debut against Chad Gable
On the historic debut episode of Monday Night RAW, the leader of the American-made faction Chad Gable demanded to face the best luchador that General Manager Adam Pearce could find. This led to huge anticipation as many fans believed that the mystery opponent would be Penta.
The Mexican star WWE debut comes following the end of a long and drawn-out departure from AEW, which was officially confirmed on November 30 when his five-year contract finally expired.
Penta’s debut was not a well-kept secret as was acknowledged by the commentary desk during his entrance. However, his performance against Gable impressed fans as they cheered for the luchador. The Mexican star defeated Gable to pick up the win in his debut.
Following his win he was interviewed by Jackie Redmond where he cut a promo revealing that he had been waiting for this moment for a long time and addressed the Mexican crowd in his native language. He further stated that he knew it was a new era and not just the Netflix new era, but it was the Penta new era!
Penta impresses WWE brass with electrifying debut
Following his electrifying debut new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider reveals that the Mexican star’s debut went way longer than initially planned, between the match and post-match promo, which led to time being trimmed from other segments later in the show.
The reports also state that several talents backstage expressed disappointment upon discovering that their times had been significantly cut.
“We did confirm that between the 13 minute match and his post-match promo, Penta went way longer than he was initially planned to go, which led to time being trimmed from other segments later in the show. There were some talents obviously not thrilled about that, as you can imagine.”
However, on a positive note, the report also reveals that the management was very happy with Penta’s debut and the reaction he got from the live audience.
“That said, we are told management was happy with the debut and with Penta’s reaction live. WWE already has a ton of new merchandise for Penta on sale. We are told internally, they were happy with the early merch numbers as well.”
Furthermore, every WWE Instagram reel of the Mexican star from the 01/13 Monday Night Raw has surpassed 1 million views in the space of 3 hours. As of now, some of them have even crossed the 2 million mark.
