The entire SmackDown tag team division will partake in a TLC match at SummerSlam!

General Manager Nick Aldis, during the closing moments of the July 25 episode of SmackDown, announced a Six-Pack Tables, Ladders, and Chairs (TLC) match for the WWE Tag Team Championship for SummerSlam 2025. The 2025 of SummerSlam is set for August 2 and 3 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The Wyatt Sicks (Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy) will defend the title against Andrade and Rey Fenix, #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa), Fraxiom (Axiom and Nathan Frazer), Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin), and The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford). The match has not yet been assigned to either night of the event.

TLC match rules

Tables, ladders, and chairs matches, which are usually abbreviated as TLC matches, originated within the WWE during the WWF days. The TLC match is a variation of the traditional ladder match, with added emphasis on two additional weapons: tables and chairs.

The objective remains the same: retrieving an item, typically championship belts, suspended above the ring. However, unlike a standard ladder match, tables and chairs are also legal and commonly used, making it a more complex and intense version of the stipulation.

The match also exists as a variation of a hardcore match, where tables, ladders, and chairs can be used during the match. However, the only way to win this variation of the match is via pinfall or submission.

When did the last TLC match take place in WWE?

The last time a tables, ladder and chairs match took place in the WWE was during the April 25 episode of SmackDown. The April 25 episode of SmackDown served as the fall out show for WrestleMania 41 and aired live from the Dickies Arena, Fort Worth, Texas, USA.

During the show, the then WWE Tag Team Champions, Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) defended the title in a TLC match against #DIY (Tomasso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano) and Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin).

The three teams put on an electric match with Ford and Dawkins picking up the win to retain the tag titles. The three teams now along with Fraxiom, the Wyatt Sicks and Rey Fenix & Andrade will now compete in a TLC match at SummerSlam.

What is a TLC match?

A TLC match is a specialized ladder match where tables, ladders, and chairs are legal weapons. The objective is typically to retrieve a championship belt suspended above the ring.
