The recent installment of the Ariel Helwani Show featured a legendary tag team!
The legendary tag team of Jeff and Matt Hardy (The Hardy Boyz) are currently signed with TNA Wrestling. However, in a recent appearance on the Ariel Helwani Show, the two expressed their desire to have a final run in WWE before hanging up their wrestling boots.
Following his 2021 exit from the Stamford-based promotion, Jeff Hardy joined his brother in AEW in March 2022. However, their run never took off as Jeff was arrested for driving under the influence.
The legendary tag teams reunited in TNA in April 2024 and quickly rose to the top, capturing the World Tag Team Championship in TNA Wrestling. The working relationship between WWE and TNA also saw them make their much-awaited return in the squared circle.
The two stars made their return in March and defended the TNA World Tag Team Championship against the then NXT Tag Team Champions Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer & Axiom) at the NXT Roadblock, which took place on March 11, 2025, at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The appearance sparked speculations of whether the two can return for a ‘proper run’ in the promotion.
The Hardy Boyz are eager for a WWE return
During their appearance on the Ariel Helwani Show, Matt and Jeff confirmed they’re eager for a full-time return to WWE before being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Matt also mentioned that both he and Jeff are eager to continue wrestling as long as they’re physically able to do so.
“Maybe so. I think we do want to do the WWE Hall of Fame. I think we would like maybe one last hurrah with WWE, and that could even be possible while working with TNA too, so we’ll see.
It would be nice to still have the most limited schedule we could have, which could optimise how much time we could spend at home with our families and our kids.
Everything is kind of up in the air right now, we both feel good and I think we’re gonna rock and roll as long as we feel like we can do it.” Matt Hardy said.
Before Jeff left WWE in 2021, he was reportedly offered a contract that included a Hall of Fame induction. However, he declined the offer at the time, stating he didn’t want to be inducted without Matt.
Matt: “Yes, Jeff was [offered a solo Hall of Fame induction]. Because I worked at AEW at the time. I mean yeah, we’ll definitely do the Hall of Fame one day. I’m not in a rush.”
Jeff: “I was thinking 2030.”

When asked why he turned down the induction, Jeff stated that it didn’t feel right for him without his brother, and also revealed WWE’s reaction to the same.
“It just felt weird, it didn’t feel right, it just didn’t feel right going in without Matt, just in the moment how I felt. [They said] ‘Ok. Good luck in your future endeavors’.
Jeff Hardy takes the blame for his AEW run
Jeff also commented on his AEW run, while taking full responsibility, stating that his DUI and personal issues got in the way of their run, but he believes he was never given a fair chance to redeem himself.
“My personal problems. Getting in trouble with the law. I think I never got a fair chance to redeem myself. Coming back, at least that’s how I felt. I totally understood why they didn’t want to give me that chance. They probably can’t trust me. I’m just a liability.
I was telling myself all these terrible things about getting what I got and getting arrested again. There is so much guilt and shame involved in that. Naturally, I beat myself up about it. I just don’t think we ever had a fair chance because of that. I blame myself all the time.”
Jeff joined AEW in 2022 and made his debut in March; however, the run was underwhelming and only lasted two years, as his contract expired in June 2024, ending his tenure with the company.
