RAW GM Adam Pearce introduced the Women’s Intercontinental Championship a few weeks ago
Following the introduction of the women’s United States championship and its exclusivity to the Friday Night SmackDown brand, it seemed evident WWE would ultimately develop a women’s Intercontinental championship as well. They announced as much only last week, starting a competition to determine the first champion.
The first match took place on this week’s Monday Night Raw in Everett, Washington, with Dakota Kai, Shayna Baszler and Katana Chance competing for a chance to advance. They had a great match — the triple threat match provided us with many entertaining back-and-forth clashes — before Kai eventually pinned Baszler after hitting her with her finisher, Chance hit a 450 splash.
WWE is preparing the card for the December 9 episode of WWE RAW. The WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship Tournament will continue with another first-round match, as announced in the December 2 edition. Zelina Vega will battle Lyra Valkyria and Ivy Nile.

Natalya went to Twitter/X to express how she felt about participating in the competition. She stated that she had competed for a championship her whole career and had established world records by outworking every woman in the company. Natalya stated that she wants to make history as the first Women’s Intercontinental Champion.
Here are the updated brackets for the first round:
- Dakota Kai vs Shayna Baszler vs Katana Chance
- Zoey Stark vs Raquel Rodriguez vs Kayden Carter
- Lyra Valkyria vs Zelina Vega vs Ivy Nile
- Alba Fyre vs Kairi Sane vs Natalya

It is uncertain when the tournament’s finals will take place. The inaugural Women’s United States Champion will be crowned at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14.
The tournament’s semi-finals are nearly complete, with Naomi, Tiffany Stratton, and Elektra Lopez vying for a spot in the next round on Friday night on SmackDown. Bayley, Chelsea Green and Michin have already won their first-round matches.
