WWE WrestleMania 41 night one Summary and Highlights

Gunther (c) vs Jey Uso- World Heavyweight Championship match

World Heavyweight Champion Gunther defended the title in the first match of the show against the winner of the 2025 men’s Royal Rumble winner Jey Uso. The Champion showcased his size and strength, battering the challengers who, despite taking a huge amount of damage refused to quit.

In a desperate move, the Ring General tried to cheat his way to victory as he nailed Jey with the title belt while the ref was distracted. However, Jey turned it around to hit a devastating spear, followed by the USO Splash from the top rope, not once, not twice, but three times, including one to the champion’s back.

To seal the victory, Jey turned the tables and locked in a sleeper hold, and for the first time in a long, long time, Gunther tapped out. Jey Uso defeated Gunther to become the new World Heavyweight Champion, this is his first World title and his second singles title overall.

War Raiders (Erik & Ivar (c) vs New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) – World Tag Team Championship match

World Tag Team Champions Erik and Ivar (War Raiders) defended the tag title against the number one contenders the New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods). The match began as the challengers looked to win their 12th tag title.

In the final moments, Erik and Woods traded blows, Kofi landed Trouble in Paradise, while a miscommunication between the War Raiders gave the New Day the upper hand. Woods followed up with a top-rope double stomp on Ivar, and with Kofi pinning down Ivar’s leg, Woods secured the three-count to capture the titles.

The New Day won their 12th tag title after defeating the War Raiders. However, the match felt like a filler, more of a commercial, which ended too quickly.

Jade Cargill vs Naomi

The third match of the show had a lot of bad blood, betrayal and animosity as Jade Cargill locked horns with Naomi. The match started as expected as Cargill showcased her strength, Naomi used cheap tactics to take control of the match.

However, in the end, Cargill once again showcased pure strength as she picked up Naomi and turned it around to deliver a powerbomb, followed by Jaded for the win. Jade Cargill defeated Naomi and exacted her revenge.

LA Knight (c) vs Jacob Fatu – United States Championship match

LA Knight, who was in his second title reign, defended the United States title against the ‘Samoan Werewolf’ Jacob Fatu, who stayed true to his mantra of “All gas no brakes”. Despite the difficult task of keeping Fatu down, the momentum swung between the two of them as the Champion fought back hard.

Be it Knight’s mid-air BFT or Fatu’s insane buckle bombs, both refused to quit but in the end, Fatu weathered the final onslaught to land a superkick, followed by a Samoan drop from the top rope. Fatu finished the match to win the US title with two consecutive top-rope moonsaults and won his first singles title in the WWE.

Rey Fenix vs El Grande Americano

Rey Fenix replaced Rey Mysterio who sustained an injury on the go-home show of SmackDown, during the six-man tag match. Rey Fenix replaced Mysterio as he battled El Grande Americano to restore the pride of Lucha Libre.

Before the match even began, Americano started arguing with Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide star Vikingo ringside, who fired back a kick right to the head. The match delivered a blitzing fast pace with high-flying actions.

However, Americano once again used dirty tactics as he put a metal plate inside his mask, despite Fenix landing the Goodbye Amigo kick, Rey hurt himself due to the metal plate. Fenix went for the cross-body, but Americano intercepted with a vicious headbutt, with the metal doing unseen damage once again Americano picked up the win against Rey Fenix.

Tiffany Stratton (c) vs Charlotte Flair – WWE Women’s Championship match

WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton defended the title in the co-main event of the show against the 2025 women’s Royal Rumble winner Charlotte Flair. The recent jabs had made this match personal as the two started exchanging vicious shots from the moment the match began.

Flair manhandled Stratton, showcasing who the veteran is, while Stratton targeted the injured leg of Flair. In the closing moments, Charlotte went for a second Natural Selection, but Tiffany countered with a roll-up into a powerbomb. Stratton quickly ascended the top rope and landed the prettiest moonsault ever to pick up the win.

Stratton defeated Charlotte to retain the WWE Women’s title. The match had a solid framework, but it felt like some chemistry issues held it back from reaching its full potential, which is not entirely surprising, considering their past interactions.

Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins vs CM Punk – Triple threat match

Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and CM Punk collided in a triple-threat match in the main event of the show, the match had the longest run time of all, apt for the three stars as they battered each other. The drama escalated with the three hitting GTSs, Stomps, Spears, mid-air Pedigrees, and Superman Punch counters.

Rollins and Reigns almost joined forces to land the Shield powerbomb but Reigns refused, slamming both Punk and Rollins through the two announce desk ringside. However, everything changed as to Reigns’ surprise Paul Heyman brought in a steel chair and gave it to CM Punk.

While Reigns looked in shock, Punk went for the kill but Heyman had other plans as he landed a low blow taking out Punk. Reigns laughed and then started battering Punk with the steel chair, Paul then turned Reigns’ attention to Rollins as Roman went for the attack Paul once again shocked everyone as he landed a low blow, taking out the OTC.

Heyman handed the steel chair to Rollins and sat down near the turn buckle to enjoy the show as Rollins sealed the moment with a steel chair shot to Roman’s back, followed by a curb stomp to pick up the win in the triple-threat match.
