Becky Lynch dramatically reclaimed championship gold at WrestleMania 42, defeating AJ Lee to win the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship. In a match built on mind games and momentum swings, “The Man” finally overcame the champion’s psychological edge.
From the opening bell, AJ Lee leaned into her signature tactics, attempting to get inside Lynch’s head. But this time, Lynch refused to bite. Instead, she came out aggressive, taking the fight straight to the champion with relentless offense and calculated counters.
Lynch even attempted to expose the turnbuckle early, signaling a more ruthless approach. However, referee Jessika Carr intervened, stopping the attempt and drawing visible frustration from the challenger as tensions began to simmer.

Despite Lee finding brief openings, Lynch maintained control for much of the contest. Every time the champion tried to build momentum, “The Man” was ready with a counter, keeping the pressure firmly on and limiting Lee’s offense.

The miscue gave Lee an opening, but her pin attempt was not enough to finish the match.
Controversy seals the championship change
As both competitors reset, AJ Lee locked in the Black Widow submission, looking to force a tap-out. Lynch, however, powered through and escaped, once again demonstrating her resilience under pressure on the grandest stage.
Sensing an opportunity, Lynch returned to her earlier strategy. She exposed the turnbuckle while Carr remained unaware, setting a trap that would ultimately decide the outcome. The subtle shift highlighted Lynch’s willingness to bend the rules to secure victory.
In the decisive moment, Lee charged forward, only for Carr to get pushed into the exposed turnbuckle. The unexpected collision left the champion stunned and vulnerable, creating the exact opening Lynch had been waiting for.
Lynch capitalized immediately, planting Lee with a Manhandle Slam and securing the three-count. With that, “The Man” ended AJ Lee’s reign of dominance and once again stood atop the division as Women’s Intercontinental Champion. Becky Lynch is now a three-time Women’s Intercontinental Champion.
