A ladder match for the ages at “The Grandest Stage of Them All”

WWE WrestleMania 42 delivered pure chaos in the Intercontinental Championship ladder match, as Penta defended against Je’Von Evans, JD McDonagh, Dragon Lee, Rusev, and Rey Mysterio. From the opening bell, the match lived up to expectations, with bodies flying and ladders becoming weapons of destruction.

The action immediately broke down into a frenzy, with competitors diving in and out of the ring. Rusev and McDonagh were the first to attempt a climb, but the field quickly closed in, ensuring no one could gain an early advantage.

High-risk offense defined the early moments. Evans stunned the crowd by leaping onto a ladder to take out McDonagh, while Mysterio executed a perfectly timed “619” on Dragon Lee, who was trapped between two ladders in a brutal setup.

High-flying chaos steals the show

Rey Mysterio found his rhythm as the match progressed, delivering one highlight after another. He soared over the ropes to crash onto Rusev, who was positioned on a ladder, showcasing his trademark fearlessness even in a dangerous environment.

After connecting with another “619” on Penta, Mysterio climbed the ladder, only to be met by Dragon Lee. The two battled at the top in a tense exchange before Lee gained the upper hand and paid homage to AJ Styles with a “Styles Clash,” bringing the crowd to its feet.

Meanwhile, the carnage escalated as ladders filled the ring. Every competitor had a moment to shine, but none could maintain control long enough to secure the championship.

Penta survives to retain in breathtaking finish

The turning point came when Penta and McDonagh found themselves atop a ladder. McDonagh attempted a high-risk suplex, but Penta countered in spectacular fashion, delivering a “Mexican Destroyer” onto the ladder in one of the most jaw-dropping moments of the night.

With the ring littered with bodies, Je’Von Evans was the first to recover. He climbed the ladder and nearly secured the title, only for Rusev to intervene and knock him off, leaving Evans hanging in mid-air.

Rusev looked poised to claim victory, but Evans responded with an unbelievable counter. Launching himself from a ladder outside the ring, he connected with a breathtaking flying cutter that wiped Rusev out and reignited the chaos.

In the final sequence, Penta returned to the ring and neutralized Evans with another “Mexican Destroyer.” With no one left to stop him, the champion climbed the ladder unchallenged.

Penta retrieved the Intercontinental Championship, successfully retaining his title in a match defined by innovation, risk, and relentless action. It was a performance that cemented his reign and delivered one of WrestleMania 42’s most unforgettable spectacles.
