The WWE Championship match headlined the show!

The WWE Championship match at WrestlePalooza lived up to the hype as Cody Rhodes defended his title against Drew McIntyre in a brutal, momentum-swinging contest. Both men came out aggressively from the opening bell, refusing to waste time with any feeling-out process.

McIntyre imposed himself early, overwhelming the champion with power shots and sharp counters. He sent a chilling message when he delivered an Alabama Slam on the steel steps, leaving Rhodes shaken and the fans gasping. At that point, it looked like McIntyre had the upper hand and was poised to reclaim the title.

Cody Rhodes battles through the storm

Despite the punishment, Cody Rhodes dug deep and fought his way back into the contest. He caught Drew McIntyre with a well-timed Cody Cutter that shifted momentum and gave the champion his first sustained offense. When he looked to finish with a Cross Rhodes, McIntyre muscled out of it and nearly connected with a Claymore.

Rhodes narrowly dodged another Claymore attempt and capitalized by locking in the Figure Four, wrenching at McIntyre’s legs in the middle of the ring. The challenger powered out, but in his desperation ripped off a turnbuckle pad. The move backfired when Rhodes launched him face-first into the exposed steel, giving the champion another opening.

Still, McIntyre fought back and finally landed a Claymore that nearly ended the match. Rhodes shocked everyone by kicking out before three, keeping his championship hopes alive.

McIntyre’s mistake costs him the match

The fight spilled near the announce table, where McIntyre attempted to hit a Claymore through Rhodes. The referee tried to hold him back, but McIntyre went for it anyway, only to miss and crash into the table, injuring his leg in the process. Limping and clearly compromised, the challenger tried to muster one final Claymore, but his body gave out before he could land it.

Rhodes seized the moment, planting McIntyre with a devastating Super Cody Cutter. That set up the finishing blow, a Cross Rhodes delivered with precision. The champion covered his opponent for the three-count, retaining the WWE Championship in front of an electric Indianapolis crowd.

Cody Rhodes stood tall, battered but victorious, proving once again why his “American Nightmare” reign continues to define this era. For Drew McIntyre, the loss will sting, as a single moment of overzealousness cost him the championship he so desperately sought to reclaim.
