AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door features multiple crossover showdowns.
A busy weekend for wrestling fans this week not only features PLEs from WWE’s main roster, NXT, and TNA, but also from All Elite Wrestling (AEW). The promotion will deliver the 2026 edition of Forbidden Door on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.
The PPV, which is usually co-produced by All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) in 2026, will also involve Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and NJPW’s sister promotion, World Wonder Ring Stardom.
It will go head-to-head against NXT Great American Bash, which starts one hour early at 7 PM ET, while TNA Slammiversary will air even before that from 4 PM ET. Multiple high-stakes matches, along with the finals of the Owen Hart tournament, are confirmed for the show. So, let’s take a look at the detailed preview for the PPV.
Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland have both secured their spot in the finals of the men’s Owen Hart Cup and are now set to battle in San Jose. On the women’s side, Mercedes Mone and Maya World have qualified for the finals and will battle in San Jose. The winner of the tournament will earn a World title match at All In 2026.
A singles action between AEW’s Kenny Omega and NJPW’s Zack Sabre Jr. is announced. Meanwhile, Mark Briscoe’s team will take on MJF’s team in a steel cage match. Both stars have recruited five participants each, and if Briscoe’s team wins, he will earn a future World title shot against MJF.
Kevin Knight, along with the rest of The Don Callis Family (Kyle Fletcher, Jake Doyle, Kazuchika Okada, & Andrade El Ídolo), has joined MJF’s team. Meanwhile, Briscoe’s team consists of Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly, Konosuke Takeshita, and Darby Allin.
AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla declared war on Wonder Ring Stardom and laid the challenge for Forbidden Door. Stardom star Starlight Kid answered the challenge, setting the stage for a high-stakes title showdown.
The matchup carries added significance due to their shared history, as Starlight Kid holds two previous victories over the reigning champion. With the Women’s World Championship on the line, Thekla will have an opportunity to settle the score, while Starlight has the opportunity to create history and defend Stardom’s honor after Thekla’s provocative comments.
Three more title matches have been added to the card as Jon Moxley defends the AEW Continental title against Bandido, while IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion Shota Umino battles Pac, with the title on the line.
Additionally, after capturing the World Tag Team titles at Double Or Nothing 2026, Cope and Cage (Adam Copeland & Christian Cage) will defend them for the first time against The Dogs (David Finlay & Clark Connors).
A three-way tag team match has been added to the card, featuring AEW’s The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) vs NJPW’s Unbound Co. (Shingo Takagi & Titan) vs CMLL’s El Sky Team (Mistico & Mascara Dorada).
AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions Divine Dominion (Megan Bayne & Lena Kross) are also set to defend the titles against Thunder Rosa & Olympia during the pre-show of the PPV, while AEW’s Skye Blue battles Stardom’s Maika in the TBS Championship Survival of the Fittest Qualifying match.
