All superstars who joined AEW after leaving WWE
WWE is not the only big pro-wrestling company anymore
WWE may still be the dominant force in wrestling, but some athletes have made the switch to the rival company AEW. WWE’s dominance in the professional wrestling industry has never been threatened since the fall of both WCW and ECW in March 2001.
Vince McMahon, the former owner of WWE, eventually purchased both firms’ assets and has since reigned as the monarch of “sports entertainment,” as he loves to refer to wrestling.
Several businesses, most notably Impact Wrestling (formerly TNA), have attempted to claim the title of clear #2 company, but none have come close, at least until the arrival of AEW.
AEW officially began in 2019, following the massive success of 2018’s All In pay-per-view, which was arranged by many of the people who would later form AEW. The founding members were wrestlers like Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks.
Tony Khan, the son of billionaire Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan, is in charge of the business end of the venture and is financing it. While AEW is not currently on the same level as WWE in terms of pop cultural importance, they are growing and may ultimately reach it. This is evidenced by the remarkable amount of performers, both main eventers and developing stars, who have opted to quit WWE and work with AEW.
Here is the list of every superstar who left WWE to work for AEW. Some on the list worked for AEW and made their way back to the Stamford-based company, but as we would be going to look at everyone here’s the list.
