As a result, Sabah FC were attacking aggressively from their first touch. The game started with the touch of Sabah FA, and right from the first second.
But everything looked good for Sabah until it came to the final third, where they lacked finishing and struggled to find the back of the net. Childish mistakes and lack of communication meant that no goals separated either side during the break.
After a rather struggling first half, second-half goals from Olivia Anokye and Soumya Guguloth secured the qualification for the reigning IWL Champions. In the 67th minute, Olivia Anokye made a solo run from the right, beat the keeper and took a thumping shot to find the back of the net and provide East Bengal with the much-needed advantage.
From then on, the tone shifted, and out of nowhere, East Bengal are now steering the match. In the 88th minute, East Bengal doubled their advantage, courtesy of Soumya Guguloth, who seamlessly found the back of the net by taking a first-time shot from a carpet cross from the left, making the opponent’s keeper Asma just a spectator at the goal.
With this, East Bengal secured a commanding 2-0 victory against Sabah FC and reserved a spot in the group stage of the AFC Women’s Champions League. In this article, we look at the updated Group A points table after the East Bengal vs Sabah FA.
