How East Bengal FC can qualify?

After East Bengal’s 12-0 victory over Rovers FC the qualification equation has become much more interesting. East Bengal are now on 6 points from two games with a +16-goal difference (4-0 vs Rajshahi and 12-0 vs Rovers).
But only the group winner advances from the preliminary stage to the AWCL Group Stage so the match between Sabah FA and Rajshahi Stars FC is very important for East Bengal.
Because if Sabah drops points against Rajshahi it will be an advantage for the Moshal Girls, but if Sabah wins today against Rajshahi, East Bengal have to beat Sabah in the final match to qualify.
Sabah FA have won their first match 13-0 against Rovers as well.
Scenario 1: Sabah beat Rajshahi
If Sabah win today, they will level with East Bengal on points and move to the top of the table with 6 points as well and a hefty goal difference.
Then East Bengal will need to win their last match against Sabah FA on Sunday, August 23, 2026, to ensure their qualification for the next round.
- If East Bengal win, 9 points and qualifies.
- If East Bengal draw then both finishes on 7 points, so AFC tiebreakers rule will be applied
- If Sabah wins Sabah finishes on 9 points and qualifies.
AFC tiebreaker rule: The AFC regulations first use head-to-head points, head-to-head goal difference and head-to-head goals before moving to overall goal difference.
Scenario 2: Sabah draw with Rajshahi
If Sabah FA drop points against Rajshahi, it will be very simple for East Bengal they will just need to either win or draw against Sabah FA in the last match to qualify.
- If East Bengal win, 9 points and qualifies.
- If East Bengal draw against Sabah FA, 7 points and still qualifies.
- If East Bengal loses against Sabah, then both on 6 points, again AFC Tiebreaker rule will be applied.
Scenario 3: Sabah lose to Rajshahi
If this happens, then it will be an ideal scenario for East Bengal, as Sabah will be on 3 points and East Bengal on 6 points and a draw will be enough for the Moshal Girls to qualify.
But East Bengal can control their own destiny irrespective of whatever happens in the Sabah FA vs Rajshahi Stars FC match.
Anthony Andrews’ squad will aim to end with nine points and take first place in Group A if they defeat Sabah FA on August 23.
And according to AFC rules, the top team from each preliminary stage group advances to the Group Stage.
