The whole first 45 minutes are under the name of the defending Indian Women’s League Champion side East Bengal FC as they started the match from the same point as they left against Rajshahi Stars in their first game, where they also clinched the first game victory to top the table with a very comfortable win. But as they faced Rovers FC in their second game at Likas Stadium, the Moshal girls proved their worth as they bagged three goals in the first half, while Priyangka Devi Naorem showed her class as she scored a brace, and both goals were a pure sign of domination.

East Bengal FC enjoyed most of the game and also the overall possession in terms of attacking transitions or in the defensive shape as they first found the breakthrough from Priyangka Devi Nareom’s feet after she delivered a banger shot from distance in the 6th minute which went in and gave the Torchabearers their lead and in the second occasion Astam Oraon the Bengal born defender who scored in the first game as well also made her name into the scoresheet.

Anju Chanu’s shot from a distance rattled in the opponent’s hand as Astam Oroan took the chance and scored the second as well as her second goal, after she also scored in the first game and gave the Kolkata outfit their second goal in the 14th minute. In the 22nd minute of the play, Priyangka Devi Naorem came up with a mind-blowing curled effort which sealed the deal as the third goal of the AFC Women’s Champions League Preliminary Stage game, and Naorem completed her brace.

From the first half of the game, players like Astam Oraon and Shilky Devi, who came up with her positioning a bit more central from the defensive area to cope with the midfield and played as a box-to-box player with Priyangka Devi Naorem, made good efforts. The foreign players of the team didn’t show that much promise in the first 45 minutes, and from the right half spaces, Soumya Guguloth also missed multiple chances.

Moshal Girls with a nine goal second half

A simply outrageous start of the second half for East Bengal FC as they scored from right to left and also from the centre, as the opponent’s defence line got shattered after their two foreign players, Anokye, opened the scoresheet for the second half in the 48th minute and Antwi with her first in the 49th minute. As Sulanjana Raul, the left wing prospect from the Red & Gold, came up from the bench produced a great display while scoring the next goal in the 51st minute.

As the game built momentum, the captain of the Red and Gold side, Shilky Devi Naorem, played a very vital role in doubling down through the middle channels and took some shots while creating some chances that might not be converted by others, but she bagged a belter with her left foot and curled the ball into the back of the net.

In the 64th minute, Okopu, who guided the team and played like a channel who connected the middle of the park to the attack, also joined the party as she scored from a good distance. While scoring, another chance occurred in the 69th minute as she bagged that goal, which gave a 10-goal lead to the Moshal Brigade.

Anju Chanu and Shilky Devi Hemam’s link-up play opened an 11-goal comfortable cushion for East Bengal FC as Anju Chanu calmly slotted the goal into the back of the net in the 73rd minute of the play. After the goal, they slowed down their tempo for a little bit as got made various changes in their squad to give exposure to every players as Rimpa Halder and Sushmita Lepcha got their names. But in the very late minutes of the match, Soumya Guguloth, who put up every single bit of sweat and also gave an assist to Antwi, finally found the goal with a powerful left-foot shot.

With a purely commanding second half performance where the reigning India champions scored nine goals in the late 45 minutes to seal a 12-goal dominating performance against Rovers FC and now they will play their last game against Sabah who are sitting second on the table.
