Top 3 Hwacheon KSPO WFC players to watch out for in East Bengal’s AFC Women's Champions League clash

Hwacheon KSPO WFC are the defending champions of the WK League.

Hwacheon KSPO WFC, the defending champions of South Korea’s top-tier women’s football competition, the WK League, are participating in the AFC Women’s Champions League for the first time in their history.

In fact, this is the first time the club has won the South Korean top-flight title in its 15-year existence.

They finished at the top of the table in the regular season before defeating Seoul City FC in a thrilling 7-5 aggregate encounter over two legs in the championship finals to clinch their maiden league title and earn their first opportunity to represent South Korea on the continental stage.

This season, Hwacheon KSPO WFC are still in the hunt to defend their title despite finishing second in the regular season. If they manage to beat Gyeongju KHNP in the playoff game and defeat Suwon FC over two legs, they will be able to secure their second consecutive league title.

However, before those decisive domestic fixtures, they have two more games to play in the 2026-27 AFC Women’s Champions League. The South Korean side, who lost their opening game 2-1 against April 25 SC despite creating a flurry of chances, are yet to face East Bengal and Ho Chi Minh City, with their game against the hosts coming next.

Hwacheon KSPO WFC will face East Bengal Women at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan on November 4, 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00 PM IST.

As head coach Sun-Mi Kang prepares her side for this crucial must-win clash against Anthony Andrews’ team, let’s take a look at three Hwacheon KSPO WFC players who could make the difference in this all-or-nothing encounter.

Lee Su-bin

Lee Su-bin, the midfielder who captained the side in their opening defeat against April 25 SC, was a standout performer in the middle of the park. She even provided the assist for their only goal, delivering a brilliant long ball over the top to find the striker between the defenders.

An accomplished midfielder, she is excellent in terms of composure and tactical awareness. She is known for her ability to control the tempo of the game through her ball retention and defensive discipline while also winning back possession.

In the ongoing 2026 WK League season, she has scored seven goals and registered an assist, playing a crucial role in Hwacheon KSPO WFC’s title defence.

Choi Yoo-jung

With the second-most goal contributions in the ongoing 2026 WK League season, Choi Yoo-jung is Hwacheon KSPO WFC’s leading scorer and assist provider, having registered eight goals and seven assists.

Last season, the striker finished with 10 goals, including three crucial strikes across the two legs against Seoul City FC in the championship finals. Given her impressive goalscoring record over the last 24 months, it was no surprise to see Choi Yoo-jung find the net in the opening game of the 2026/27 AFC Women’s Champions League, scoring the equaliser with a beautiful finish.

She is a prolific striker who can also create chances and consistently attacks the half-spaces, making runs behind the defensive line to score goals. Choi Yoo-jung’s only goal on the international stage came against India in a 3-0 win at the 2025 Pink Ladies Cup.

Wi Jae-eun

A creative midfielder who can also play as a winger, Wi Jae-eun has been with the club since 2022. The 30-year-old finished last season with seven goals, playing a key role in Hwacheon KSPO WFC’s treble-winning domestic campaign.

Like Choi Yoo-jung, she also scored in both legs against Seoul City FC in the championship finals. She has continued her fine form into this season, registering four goal contributions in 16 appearances while attempting 20 shots.

Wi Jae-eun is a technical player with the ability to take on defenders and full-backs in tight spaces, while also possessing excellent link-up play. She often interchanges positions between central areas and the flanks, chipping in with crucial goals along the way.
