East Bengal face Nasaf FC in AFC Women's Champions League group decider

The Group D points table in the AFC Women’s Champions League saw a rejig after Wuhan Jiangda defeated East Bengal FC on the second matchday. The defending Indian Women’s League champions started their campaign with a win over Bam Khatoon but failed to continue the momentum.

Nasaf FC are still winless as Bam Khatoon registered a 1-0 win against them. The final matchday will be the decider for Group D as all the teams are in contention to qualify for the AFC Women’s Champions League knockouts.

Wuhan Jiangda take the lead

Wuhan Jiangda, the defending AWCL champions, started slowly but have caught up and taken the lead in the points table courtesy of their 2-0 victory against East Bengal. The Chinese club could not collect all three points against Nasaf FC in the first match as the Uzbeks forced a stalemate.

After the second matchday, Wuhan Jiangda sit at the top of the table with four points. Trailing in second position with three points are East Bengal.

Bam Khatoon are in third position but are level with East Bengal in terms of points. A superior head-to-head record and goal difference have kept East Bengal ahead in the race. Nasaf struggle at the bottom of the table with just one point in their bag.

Knockout berth at stake

The Red and Gold Brigade will have a shot at history when they take the field against Nasaf FC on Sunday. They can confirm a historic knockout Berth if they register a win. The top two teams from each group will qualify.

For Nasaf FC and Bam Khatoon, a win is non-negotiable. But it will be a huge task for both teams to defeat the table toppers, but it is not impossible. Nasaf’s draw against Wuhan Jiangda shows the group’s competitiveness.
