East Bengal thrashed Rajshahi Stars 4-0 to begin their AFC Women’s Champions League 2026-27 preliminary stage campaign.

Indian Women’s League (IWL) champions East Bengal FC eases past Bangladesh side Rajshahi Stars in AFC Women’s Champions League 2026-27 preliminary stage campaign on Monday (17th August), targeting successive group-stage qualification in the continental competition.

The Moshal Girls began their campaign with a 4-0 drubbing of Bangladesh side Rajshahi Stars FC at the Likas Stadium in Malaysia on Monday. New signing Olivia Anokye of Ghana bagged a brace as Indian internationals Astam Oraon and Soumya Guguloth also found the back of the net.

The Moshal Girls returned to Asia for the second consecutive year after retaining its Indian Women’s League title. They will need to finish the preliminary stage at the top of their group to book a place in the group stage.

Next up, the Anthony Andrews-coached side faces Guam’s Rovers FC on Thursday, August 20, at the same venue.

Elangbam Panthoi Chanu – 7/10

Panthoi Chanu was once again calm and composed under the goalpost. She made some good saves throughout the game although was not tested to her full potential as East Bengal outplayed their opponent. Still made an important save from Monika Chakma’s long-range effort to maintain the clean sheet for the Moshal Girls.

Astam Oraon – 8/10

Astam Oraon maintained his positioning well and avoided major errors. She was solid at the back, and scored the second goal of the match. It was a brilliant individual goal, and she had significantly influenced the game beyond her basic defensive duties.

Sarita Yumnam – 7/10

Sarita helped East Bengal maintain control from the right side. Managed her defensive responsibilities well, rarely allowing her Rajshahi markers time or space, and chose her moments to support the attacks carefully, along with her defensive duties.

Abena Anoma Opoku – 7.5/10

Abena Opoku along with captain Shilky Devi was composed at the backline and maintained the defensive shape really well throughout the match. Opoku through her defensive skills kept the Rajshahi strikers quiet throughout the game.

Adama Alhassan – 7.5/10

Adama Alhassan from Ghana was impressive on her East Bengal debut. She was calm and composed in the defence line and maintained the defensive shape really well throughout the game along with Opoku, Astam Oraon and others. And helped East Bengal keep Rajshahi’s attack quiet.

Priyangka Devi Naorem – 7/10

Priyangka Devi Naorem was acting as the linking player between the midfield and the frontline of East Bengal throughout the game and maintained the fluidity in attack of the team in the match.

Shilky Devi Hemam – 8/10

Shilky Devi with her immense experience controlled the midfield really well for the Moshal Girls in the match against Rajshahi Stars FC. The captain was leading from the front and maintained the ball possession in East Bengal’s favour throughout the game. She was one of the top performing players from East Bengal’s 4-0 win against Rajshahi.

Soumya Guguloth- 8.5/10

Soumya was brilliant throughout the game, she earned the first penalty of the game through which Olivia scored the first goal. She was constantly creating pressure in the defence line of the Rajshahi team. Her counter attack tactics worked really well in the match. She had also scored one goal in the match.

Olivia Anokye – 9/10

Olivia Anokye proved to be one of the dangerous player in this match. In absence of Fazila Ikwaput handled the pressure well and was leading the front line of East Bengal. She was adjust the player of the match as well. The Ghanaian was arguably the standout performer on her debut, scoring twice as East Bengal began their AWCL preliminary campaign with an emphatic 4-0 victory.

Sulanjana Raul – 8/10

Sulanjana Raul was brilliant in her attacking contributions throughout the game and was involved in two goal-scoring assists in the game as well.

Rimpa Halder – 7.5/10

Rimpa worked really hard throughout the game and provided attacking width and movement.

Substitutions

Abigail Antwi – 6.5/10

The 23-year-old forward Abigail Antwi joins East Bengal this season from Setu FC, where she featured in the Indian Women’s League last season. She came as a substitute and had a very less impact in the game. But was really close on scoring one goal but couldn’t deliver.

Ashalata Devi – 6/10

Ashalata Devi came as a substitute, provided leadership and defensive stability to the backline.
