India set historic first in Asian Games with three boxing golds

The Indian boxers had a wonderful outing at the Aichi-Nagoya Games

The Asian Games 2026 is being held at Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, and the Indian boxing contingent had a historic outing at the 20th edition of the continental tournament.

The 11-member boxing squad sent to the Aichi-Nagoya Games won six medals, which includes a historic haul of three gold medals. The remaining three medals were bronze. This means that India topped the boxing medal tally at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, marking the first time this feat has been achieved at the Asiads.

India topped the boxing medal tally with six medals, including three golds and three bronzes. Uzbekistan had seven medals, but their inferior record of two golds meant they finished in second place. Kazakhstan finished in third place with five medals, including two golds. China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, and Thailand had one gold medal each.

This also marked India’s most successful boxing campaign at the Asian Games in terms of gold medals. The Indian boxing contingent had won nine medals at the Guangzhou 2010 Games, but this only included two gold medals.
