Lovlina begins her gold medal campaign against Seong Suyeon
With the draw for the women’s 75kg boxing event being confirmed on September 20, Lovlina Borgohain is all set to face South Korea’s Seong Suyeon in the quarterfinal at the Asian Games 2026.
The Indian boxer has been placed in the eight-boxer bracket and will need to win three bouts to claim the gold medal.
Her quarter-final is scheduled for September 28, followed by the semi-final on September 30 and the gold medal bout on October 2.
Lovlina arrives at the Asian Games after a strong run at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, where she won silver in the women’s 75kg category. She reached the final in Glasgow before losing 4-1 to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree.

The Indian boxer also brings considerable experience from the biggest stages. She won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, became a world champion in 2023, and took silver at the 2022 Asian Games.
Her route to gold, however, includes some familiar and highly rated opponents. A potential semi-final could see her face either Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova or Uzbekistan’s Aziza Zokirova, while China’s Bao Ziyi is among the leading names on the opposite side of the draw.

Quarterfinal – Seong Suyeon (South Korea)
Lovlina’s first challenge will be Seong Suyeon of South Korea, who is ranked 11th in the World Boxing women’s 75kg rankings. Lovlina is ranked seventh in the same category.
The two boxers are not unfamiliar with each other. Lovlina defeated Seong 5-0 in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, a victory that also earned her a medal and a quota place for the Paris Olympics.
Seong will therefore be looking to produce a different result when the two meet again. The Korean boxer also has experience of competing against high-level opposition and will be hoping to make the most of her opportunity against one of India’s most decorated boxers.
With a medal guaranteed after a quarter-final win, Lovlina will look to make the most of her opening opportunity and progress to the last four.

Semifinal – Natalya Bogdanova (Kazakhstan) / Aziza Zokirova (Uzbekistan)
If Lovlina gets past Seong, she will meet the winner of Natalya Bogdanova and Aziza Zokirova in the semi-final.
Bogdanova is a particularly experienced opponent. The Kazakh boxer is the reigning world champion, having won the 70kg title at the 2025 World Championships. She has moved up to 75kg for the Asian Games and will be one of the major names in Lovlina’s half of the draw.
Zokirova, meanwhile, presents a more recent challenge for the Indian. The Uzbek boxer defeated Lovlina 5-0 in the semif-inal of the 2026 Asian Boxing Elite Championships. Zokirova went on to win silver, while Lovlina finished with bronze.
The result means a potential rematch would come only a few months after their previous meeting.
Zokirova was ranked sixth in the latest World Boxing rankings, one place above Lovlina. A meeting with either Zokirova or Bogdanova would therefore give Lovlina a difficult test for a place in the final.

Final – Bao Ziyi (China)
On the other side of the bracket are China’s Bao Ziyi, Thailand’s Buapa Porntip, Vietnam’s Luu Diem Quynh and Iran’s Khoshkhah Parmida.
Bao Ziyi stands out as the highest-ranked boxer from this half of the draw. She was ranked second in the latest World Boxing rankings and won gold in the women’s 75kg category at the 2026 Asian Boxing Elite Championships. She defeated Zokirova 3-2 in the final of that tournament.
However, Lovlina will first have to navigate the two bouts before thinking about a potential final against Bao or any of the other three boxers.
Her route is now clearly defined: Seong Suyeon in the quarter-final, Bogdanova or Zokirova in the semi-final, and one of four boxers from the opposite half in the final.
Lovlina won silver in Hangzhou three years ago and will now have the opportunity to improve on that result. With her experience, recent Commonwealth Games silver and a draw that gives her a direct quarter-final route, she will be aiming to turn her Asian Games silver from 2022 into gold at Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
