Indian boxer Parveen Hooda clinched the gold medal in the women’s 65kg event at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Friday, October 2.
The 26-year-old Indian pugilist from Rohtak, Haryana, defeated Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-chin 3-2 by split decision in the gold medal bout.
It was a historic result for India as Parveen became only the second female boxer from the country to clinch gold at the Aichi-Nagoya Games. Earlier, Lovlina Borgohain won the women’s 75kg title, beating China’s Ziyi Bao in the final.

Now, Parveen has won the women’s 65kg title, marking a successful outing in the new weight class added to the Asian Games. This marked a brilliant outing for the Indian women’s boxing contingent.
Lovlina’s unanimous decision victory against Bao ended a 12-year wait for a women’s boxing Asiad gold for India. The only Indian female pugilist to achieve this feat before was MC Mary Kom, who won the women’s flyweight title at the 2014 Incheon Games.

The gold medal bout between Parveen and Chen, a Paris 2024 Olympics bronze medallist, was a tightly contested one.
Parveen started on the front foot, winning the first round 5-0. However, the Chinese Taipei boxer responded by winning the second round 5-0. In the deciding round, Parveen held her nerve to win 3-2, securing a historic victory.
This marked a superb return to the continental tournament for Parveen. She had earlier won bronze at the Hangzhou 2022 Games but saw her medal stripped after being suspended for 22 months for three whereabouts failures. This also led to her missing the Paris Olympics.
Now, the Haryana native boxer has clinched her maiden Asiad medal, adding to a tally that already includes gold medals at the 2025 World Boxing Cup, the 2022 Asian Boxing Championships, and the 2019 South Asian Games.
