Indian boxer Saweety Boora files police complaint against ex-Kabaddi player, husband Deepak Niwas Hooda

The couple have lodged complaints against each other in different police stations.

Indian boxer Saweety Boora and former Indian national kabaddi team captain Deepak Niswas Hooda are embroiled in a marital dispute, with the couple levelling serious allegations against each other. The couple tied the knot on July 7, 2022; however, their wedding has now turned sour, with Saweety filing a complaint against her husband with the Hisar police.

Boora, who competes in the middleweight weight class, has won the gold medal at 2023 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and silver medal class at the 2014 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in the light heavyweight category.

Hooda, on the other hand, is an accomplished kabaddi player having previously captained the Indian kabaddi team. He was part of the Indian team that claimed the gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games and has featured in all the seasons of the popular Pro Kabaddi League.

According to Tribune, both the Arjuna Award recipients have lodged complaints against their better halves at the Hisar and Rohtak police stations. The Indian boxer has alleged Hooda physically assaulted her and demanded Rs 1 crore and an SUV as dowry from her family.

Hooda, meanwhile, accused Boora’s family of usurping his property and threatening him. as reported by The Tribune. Hisar SP Shashank Kumar Sawan confirmed that a notice was issued to Hooda regarding the marital dispute, but there has been no response.

Hooda and Boora had first met during a marathon, wherein the former captain was the chief guest. The duo’s friendship slowly turned into love, resulting in their marriage in 2022. The pair was last slighted together during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, alongside Rahul Gandhi. Interestingly.

Despite their success in the sporting arena, both Deepak Hooda and Saweety Boora are grappling with concerns in their personal lives. Their marriage dispute has now not only become a topic of discussion for those involved in the sporting circuit but also has attracted the attention of several politicians considering their political interests in the past.

Saweety had aspirations to contest elections from Barwala in Hisar, but her plans did not materialize. Similarly, her husband Hooda too, fought for the Meham seat during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as a BJP candidate, only to be defeated by the opposition. The court is set to announce its verdict in the coming days.
