This project was first announced in 2021 and was in development with Cyber Group Studios. But with the closure of that studio early this year, the development of the anime was halted without any final destination.
Finally, a French animation studio, Euro Visual, has picked up the project. According to the French magazine Ecran, this anime series will feature 13 episodes, each episode 22 minutes long.
This anime series will embrace the classic 2D animation style, targeted at audiences aged 6-13.
Original story set in Gaia
The magical world of Gaia will finally be animated in the Final Fantasy 9 anime. Anime will create an original story within the game’s legendary universe, as opposed to a direct adaptation of the game’s narrative.
The story revolves around the last four black wizards living happily in Alexandria until their lives take a drastic turn. This plot was originally leaked in 2022 and it appears that the studio is still adapting based on this.
