Archery World Cup 2023 Shanghai Stage 2: Full schedule, fixtures, results, live streaming details
Abhishek Verma continues to wait for his opportunity as India will field the same team in Shanghai as they did in Antalya.
Archery World Cup 2023 Stage 2 will take place in Shanghai, China. Stage 2 of the tournament will be played from 16 May to 21 May, 2023. The archers from India finished Stage 1 with four medals - two in the Recurve category and two in the Compound category.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam was the star of the Compound category with gold medals in the individual and mixed team (while playing with Ojas Pravin Deotale) events. And in the Recurve category, youngster Dhiraj Bommadevara returned from Turkey with two medals - a bronze medal in the individual event and a silver medal in the men's team final while playing with veterans Atanu Das and Tarundeep Rai.
For the uninitiated, Archery World Cup 2023 has four stages, and the players with the most points collected in the four stages will advance to the World Cup Finals. Archery World Cup stages or the finals have no say over an individual's or a team's qualification to the Paris Olympics 2024.
India at Archery World Cup 2023 Stage 2
India will send the same individuals who participated in Stage 1 of the Archery World Cup 2023. And so, we will again see the absence of the former World No. 1 recurve archer, Deepika Kumari. Deepika Kumari couldn't give her best in the trials as she rushed back to training after delivering her and partner Atanu Das' first child.
Also missing from the contingent will be the crucial compound archer Abhishek Verma. Abhishek, like Deepika Kumari, wasn't at his best in the national trials. However, the 33-year-old still has a chance to get back on the roster, unlike Deepika Kumari. Abhishek did finish in the top 8, thus earning him an opportunity of sneaking into the first team if one of the four first-team archers were to miss a tournament or two due to an injury.
