Archery World Cup Stage 2: Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Ojas Pravin Deotale clinch gold in mixed team compound

The mixed team pair has won back-to-back gold medals at the Archery World Cup

India's Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Tejas Pravin Deotale clinched the gold medal by defeating mighty Korea in the compound mixed team final (156-155) at the Archery World Cup, Stage 2 in Shanghai. The pair has now back-to-back gold medals at the World Cup (previously at Antalya Stage I). It was a closely fought contest with the first three series finishing in tie successively (39-39, 78-78, 117-117). In the end, India went on to win the match after scoring an additional point in the fourth, which ultimately proved to be decisive.

The mixed pair had smooth sailing en route to the semi-final. They received a bye in the opening round and in the next round defeated neighbours Bangladesh comprehensively (158-151). The match in the semis ended in a tie and the shoot-off subsequently too finished in the tie. Eventually, India progressed to the final by having a close shot towards the centre (X).

Jyothi Surekha Vennam finished a credible sixth at the end of the qualification round by scoring 693. The Arjuna awardee equaled the World Record last month in the Archery World Cup Stage I held in Turkey. The 26-year-old exited in the third round in the individual event after losing to Su A Cho of South Korea in the shoot-offs. Ojas on the other hand, bowed out in the second round (individual) after finishing 17th in the qualification round.
