Archery World Cup 2024 Shanghai Stage 1: Full schedule, fixtures, results, live streaming details
A contingent comprising 16 members will represent India in the competition.
The Archery World Cup 2024 circuit gets underway this week in Shanghai, with over 300 of the world’s top archers descending on the Chinese city to compete for the first tickets to October’s World Cup Final in Tlaxcala, Mexico.
Leading India’s charge is three-time Olympian Deepika Kumari, who tops the women’s recurve lineup after winning the national trials in March. The 28-year-old will be aiming to secure an early spot in Tlaxcala.
Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav will spearhead the men’s recurve contingent. Bommadevara has already secured India’s solitary recurve quota for the Paris Games.
In the non-Olympic compound event, India boasts reigning world champion Aditi Gopichand Swami and world championships silver medalist Jyothi Surekha Vennam in the women’s team. The men’s compound squad features Asian Games multiple medalist Abhishek Verma, world silver medalist Rajat Chauhan, under-21 world champion Priyansh and Prathamesh Fuge.
With only three World Cup stages scheduled this year due to the Paris Olympics, opportunities are limited for archers to qualify for the circuit finale. After Shanghai, the tour moves to Yecheon, South Korea in May before the final qualifying event in Antalya, Turkey from June 18-23.
The three stage winners in each event will book automatic berths in Tlaxcala, joined by points qualifiers and the eventual Paris 2024 Olympic champions. For India’s archers, a strong start in Shanghai could pave the way to a coveted spot at the prestigious season-ending World Cup Final.
