Salgaocar conquer Vasco in the Port Town derby
The Greens also had defeated the Port Towners in the return fixture.
Stephen Satarkar scored a hat-trick as Salgaocar Football Club register a comfortable 4-1 win over Vasco Sports Club in the Port Town derby of the Goa Professional League played at Duler stadium on Tuesday afternoon. Ronaldo Oliveira scored the other goal for the Greens, while Moises D’sa scored the consolation goal for the Port Towners.
Whereas, Salgaocar also had an upper hand when both the sides met last time in the league as the Greens defeated them by a 2-0 margin in the previous meet. With this victory, Salgaocar climbed to the fourth position with 35 points from 16 matches, whereas, Vasco remained on the sixth position with 27 points from 21 matches.
Vasco who were held by Sporting Clube de Goa in their last match started the match on attacking note as they took just five minutes to create their first opportunity of the match when Shubham Rao Dessai was in the commanding position in the box after Salgaocar keeper Jason D’Mello and defender Saurabh Patil fumbled with the ball but the Port Towner saw his lobbed attempt flung over the crossbar.
The next 15 minutes were restricted to the midfield play which ended with a swift attack from the Greens as Devendra Murgaonkar tried his luck from 25-yards but his sparkling shot hit the top corner and luckily went into Vasco keeper Sanju Thapa’s hands.
Vasco also had another chance to surge ahead as their skipper Penn Orji made a perfect cross to Rugved Yeole in the box but the set-pieces specialist failed to control his shot from inside the box.
A few minutes later, Salgaocar strike force Devendra nicely jelled with Ronaldo with a one-two-one passing just outside the box but shot wide from close. At the other end, the Port Towners came with another threatening attack from the halfway line as Dessai should have taken his side into the lead but Salgaocar keeper Jason came with a breath-taking save to deny the forward.
Salgaocar finally managed to open their tally in the 42nd minute as their striker Ronaldo’s powerful shot gave no chance to Vasco keeper Thapa, making it 1-0 for the Greens just before the halftime.

Salgaocar almost doubled their tally within five minutes after changing the ends when Devendra brilliantly headed skipper Godfray Mascarenhas’ cross at the goal but Vasco custodian brilliantly fisted it over the crossbar. However, he could not hold the opponents for a long as Salgaocar’s midfielder Stephen made it 2-0 for his side with a smart flick in the goal, off Godfray’s pin-point perfect cross in the box.
Pumped-up by two goals, Salgaocar quickly netted the third goal as Chaitan Komarpant made a darting run on the wing and found Stephen with a square pass in the box. The lad easily put the ball in the net from close to make it 3-0.

Vasco tried hard to get back into the match as they made few raids on the rivals but it was a too late to bounce back from four goals down. However, they managed to reduce their margin in the dying minutes of the match as Moises stabbed the ball in the back of the nylons, off Rugved’s cross making it 4-1.
