The Port Towners secured their fourth straight victory.

Vasco Sports Club outclassed Bardez FC as they registered a commanding 5-0 win in a Goa Professional League match, played at Duler Stadium earlier today. Beneston Barretto scored a brace, while, Moises D’Sa, Penn Orji and Anil Gaonkar scored each for the Port Towners.

With this victory, Vasco are placed at the sixth position with 23 points from 17 outings, while Bardez continue to struggle at the bottom of the table with just six points from 14 matches.

Vasco were unbeaten in the last four matches. They had recently registered an easy 2-0 win over Panjim Footballers in the last match, while, Bardez had suffered defeats in the last four matches. Whereas, the last encounter between the two sides had finished in a high scoring 2-2 draw.

The last match scorer, Beneston Barretto made a start for the Port Towners, while their coach Micky Fernandes also gave a start to Shubham Rao Dessai in the starting XI. On the other hand, Bardez coach Savio D’Souza also made two changes to his side as Carlton Cabral and Stephen Martin made into the cut.

U-20 Darren Rebello had the best chance to put Vasco ahead in the 5th minute when Nigerian midfielder Penn Orji’ long ball fell into his feet with an empty goal in front of him but the U-20 winger failed to keep his shot on target from inside the box. Darren had another chance within the next two minutes but this also he failed to capitalise on an easy chance.

However, their striker Beneston opened Vasco’s tally in the 20th minutes when he nicely collected Orji’s through pass and made a clinical finish from 10-yards to make it 1-0 for his side.

With just two minutes after taking a lead, Vasco had a chance to double their lead as Moises D’Sa found Anil Gaonkar with a superb through pass but the winger’s extra touch wasted an easy opportunity.

Whereas, U-20 forward Aman Govekar should have increased their lead in the 26th minutes as the striker was perfectly fed by Moises with another masterpiece pass but the U-20 striker shot wide from just inside the box.

Bardez also tried to put some pressure on the opponents with few attacks but most of it ended before entering the box. Whereas, Vasco wasted two more chance after the half-hour mark as first Beneston failed to score from close off Dessai low cross, while Lenstan Afonso failed to keep his tap on target off Orji’s curling cross.

With just a minute to halftime, Anil saw his powerful shot from just inside the box missed the target narrowly, while in the added time, Moises set up Anil with a perfect chip pass in the box but Bardez keeper Elesh Shirvoikar came off the line to deny him in a one-on-one situation.

Vasco wasted another chance to double their tally in the early minutes of the second session as substitute Rugved Yeole made a defence-splitting through pass to Beneston who covered some ground to enter the box but his chip shot went over the crossbar.

At the other end, Bardez U-20 winger Richard Cardoz went for the glory from the distance but his sparkling shot missed the target by few inches.

Vasco finally managed to inflate their lead at the hour mark as after dribbling past two opponents Rugved made a short pass to Beneston at the top of the box, who released it to Moises in the box. The midfielder later made no mistake to beat the Bardez keeper from inside the box to make it 2-0 for the Port Towners.
