The Mariners' new tactician holds a UEFA Pro Licence.

Mohun Bagan officials were looking around at a lot of coaches in pursuit of handing someone the duties for the club. However, after a lot of rumoured names, the Mariners have announced Spanish coach, Jose Antonio Vicuna as their new manager.

Jose Antonio Vicuna who is commonly known as "Kibu" is a coach of Spanish and Polish descent. The tactician holds a UEFA Pro Licence and has had experiences in developing youth throughout his career.

However, Mohun Bagan's way of announcing their new gaffer was pretty different as the news got official from their youtube channel. The announcement was made by Alexa and the whole thing looked like an attempt to look cool which they obviously failed.

Although similar thing cannot be said for Vicuna as he has vast knowledge throughout his career in Spain and also in Poland. He was an understudy to the manager, Jan Urban and acted as his assistant in clubs like CA Osasuna, Legia Warszawa, Lech Poznan and Slask Wroclaw. He then joined Polish first division team Trakai as a head coach but the thing did not work out well for the tactician as he switched his loyalties to another Polish side, Wisla Plock.

It is true that Vicuna's experience as a head coach is pretty limited but his main forte has always been youth development. The 47-year old tactician is known in Spain for his work behind youth player and has trained players like Cesar Azpilicueta, Nacho Monreal, Javi Martinez and Raul Garcia in their early days at Osasuna. Mohun Bagan will be looking to use his philosophy to good effect and unearth more local talent in the coming season.

The Mariners have not tasted success in the last few seasons and are have changed several coaches to find the right tuning. Vicuna can be the man for the job here if he manages to gel with the side well and takes the legacy of the club ahead in the upcoming seasons.

The club officials were very delighted to announce Vicuna, as club directors, Debashis Dutta and Srinjoy Bose expressed their opinion on the appointment.

“We have spoken with Kibu and he is happy and excited about the challenges of coaching in Mohun Bagan”. They added that “Kibu has the ability, knowledge and experience. He promotes young players and has a style and a way of working similar to ours. He has a philosophy of the game that is very much like Mohun Bagan’s philosophy and is a hard worker. Also, he is passionate about applying advanced technology to both training and matches.”
