Lobera pleased with 'deserved' win, Chauhan defends rookie goalkeeper Patil
The Gaurs' fine goalscoring form continued while the Lions slipped to a fourth straight defeat
FC Goa were at their prolific best with the help of some Spanish magic as they secured a 5-1 win over Delhi Dynamos FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on Saturday.
Goals from Ferran Corominas, Manuel Lanzarote, Adrian Colunga and Manuel Arana added to a Pritam Kotal own and helped secure top position in the Indian Super League (ISL) table for the Gaurs. The Lions had defender Gabriel Cichero sent off midway through the second half following which their defence crumbled.
Speaking to the media for FC Goa at the post-match press conference was their head coach Sergio Lobera, and he opined that his team thoroughly deserved the win. “I think what we deserve is what we ended up with today,” he said. “We created a lot of chances today. At one phase, both teams were quite equal. We ended up with three points and we are happy.”
Lobera further added that while they found the going hard in the first half, he was pleased with the end result. “It was hard for us in the first half,” he admitted. “But one cannot expect a result always. We trained as hard as possible for this game and we are happy with how things turned out in the end.”
The Gaurs, however, have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their matches and before concluding, the Spaniard insisted that they needed to work on their defence. “We have scored 18 goals in five games and that has to count for something,” he stated. “Obviously, we want to improve our defence and that is something which we are working on. Hopefully we will keep a clean sheet in the next game.”

Meanwhile, Delhi Dynamos FC’s assistant coach, Shakti Chauhan defended goalkeeper Sukhdev Patil who is covering for an injured Albino Gomes. “See if you talk about Sukdhev, he is one of the up and coming talents,” he stated. “I think he did a good job. But it is very difficult to defend with 10 men.”
