Atletico Madrid supporters remind Thibaut Courtois of the day he abused Real Madrid fans

Real Madrid’s new goalkeeper acquisition Thibaut Courtois has been given a walk down memory lane. Atletico Madrid supporters have begun to remind him of a time when he threw taunts at Real Madrid fans when he played for the Los Rojiblancos on loan from Chelsea for three seasons.

The Belgian custodian moved to the Bernabeu for £35m from England. After Atletico’s Copa del Rey success in 2013, the shot-stopper was recorded hurling abuses tt Madrid fans. Due to his fantastic performances, he had become a fan-favourite during his earlier time in Spain.

The goalkeeper was filmed shouting on top of the Madrid Town Hall balcony, telling the Los Blancos fans to "f*** themselves up the ***."

He also has a plaque outside the Wanda Metropolitano, placed alongside players who have made over 100 appearances for the La Liga club. Courtois went on to make 111 appearances before returning to his parent club.

Some fans have begun to tweet others to buy toy rats from Ikea and throw them at their former shot-stopper during the UEFA Super Cup fixture between Diego Simeone's men and Julen Loptegui's outfit. Meanwhile, others have gone on to state that his plaque outside the stadium won't be in good condition soon.

The former Genk player will be competing with Keylor Navas for the club's #1 goalkeeping s spot. The Costa Rican has already expressed that he doesn't want to leave the club and will fight for his spot.

Courtois was Belgium's main goalkeeper during their 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign where they attained third place. He has appeared 126 times for Chelsea and won the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup with them. Also, his departure bought in the arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga to London from Athletic Bilbao for a world-record fee for a goalkeeper.
