Ligue 1 match between Dijon and Amiens interrupted due to racists chants
The player subjected to the abuse was Amines captain Prince Gouano.
Another footballer encounters racism, this time in the French Ligue 1 as Dijon FCO hosted Amiens SC in a fight against relegation. The game was interrupted for five minutes after Amiens defender Prince Gouano was allegedly hurled racist chants from the home supporters.
The Amines Twitter handle showed full support for their defender and captain as he stood against racist chants.
"Full support to our captain Prince Gouano. Racism has no place in a football stadium," Amiens said on Twitter.
The game ended on a 0-0 stalemate but it was a disappointing night for French football as a whole as the game got interrupted at the 78th minute when Gouano claimed that he heard racist chants from the home crowd.
"We came here to get a result, which is job done with the seventh match in a row without defeat for us. It shows our attacking and defensive solidity. We have to take that from this," club captain Thomas Monconduit said to Sky Sports after the game.
"The racist monkey chants? We are in the 21st century, it is unacceptable.
"I asked the referee to stop the match. We are all equal. Yes, people are of different colours. But above all that, we are all human beings.
"We have to love each other, the people around us, something that was not done tonight.
"But I am not angry at the fans, mistakes are human. That is why after this match, I went to applaud them, in an attempt to spread my message of love," Monconduit further added.
Dijon striker Benjamin Jeannot also showed full support for his opposition defender and condemned the act from the fans at their home stadium, Stade Gaston Gerard.
"We did not hear the shouts but if they happened, of course, we totally support the cause, like Blaise Matuidi at Juventus when they wanted to stop the match.
"I find that to be normal. If he heard them, I believe in him. I support him wholeheartedly," Jeannot said about the incident.

The matter has been taken over by the French football's governing body (LFP) as they showed their disgust for the incident and assure the club and the defender that proper measures will be taken against these type of acts. It was later confirmed that the offender was identified and arrested.
"The LFP condemns the racist insults which forced a temporary suspension in play in the match between Dijon and Amiens," a member from LFP addressed media regarding the issue.
"The LFP fully supports Prince Guano. The Disciplinary Committee will meet on Wednesday to review the incident.

However, the draw only brings more tension to Dijon FC as they are currently languishing at the 18th position somehow with a shot at relegation playoffs looking their only way to survive in the top division of French football. Amiens FC, on the other hand, are in a bit better position than their counterparts, sitting at 15th position in the league table seven points above the relegation zone and may just survive from the drop this season.
