AS Roma threaten legal action against Bordeaux
The Serie A outfit was set to sign Malcom from the French club before the winger detoured to Barcelona at the last minute.
The Malcom saga took yet another new turn as AS Roma's Sporting Director Monchi revealed that the Italians are considering legal action against Bordeaux.
On the eve of 25th July, La Liga giants Barcelona had signed the Brazilian winger Malcom from Bordeaux for €41m, almost a day after AS Roma announced their deal for him.
As reported by The Guardian, Malcom was set to be the latest signing for Roma, with just the medical and personal terms left to complete the move. The bid had been accepted by Bordeaux, but just before his departure from the French club, a shock bid from Barcelona changed everything.

It is reported that Barcelona had a bid of somewhere around €40m accepted and Malcom was at Camp Nou on a five-year-deal. Roma’s Sporting Director, Monchi, has made clear his views on the current scenario in a video on the club’s official Twitter feed and appeared to put the blame on Bordeaux. The Spaniard also stated that Roma are considering legal action.
“It is easy to explain, but hard to understand,” Monchi said. “We reached an agreement [on Monday] with the player, his agent and Bordeaux. He was due to arrive for his medical at 11 pm. Everything was done, so we were calm and confident.”

He added that Bordeaux President, Stéphane Martin, insisted on releasing a statement confirming the deal and that Roma were 'forced' to follow suit. He then claimed that after Barcelona submitted a higher offer, Bordeaux refused to let the player travel to Rome. Monchi also stated that Roma made a new offer, but ended negotiations when asked to increase it further, “because we don’t want a bidding war.”
“We’re weighing up things up at the club, to see if we can take any legal action. Although, we don’t have any signed documents, I have lots of messages from [Malcom’s] agent and [Bordeaux’s] President. That’s something worth considering.”

Malcom is the third signing for the Spanish champions, folllowing the acquisition of central midfielder Arthur from Grêmio for a reported £35.5m and French defender Clément Lenglet from Sevilla for £31m.
Rome, however, have signed a decent number of players including the likes of Javier Pastore from PSG, Justin Kluivert from Ajax and Grégoire Defrel from Sassuolo for the forthcoming season.
