The Belgium international will leave the club as a hero and fan favourite.

Vincent Kompany chose the perfect time to announce his departure from Manchester City. The news of his move comes just a day after the Cityzens clinched the FA Cup title after defeating Watford 6-0 in the final, which also means they finished the season with a magnificent treble.

In his 11 years at the club, Kompany won lots of accolades and will definitely go down as one of the best players in the books of City. Appearing over 360 times for the club in all competitions , the Belgian had established himself as one of the cult figures amongst the fans.

“As overwhelming as it is, the time has come for me to go. And what a season to bow out. I feel nothing but gratefulness. I am grateful to all those who supported me on a special journey, at a very special club,” said the 33-year-old.

“I will never forget how all Man City supporters remained loyal to me in good times and especially bad times. Against the odds you have always backed me and inspired me to never give up.”

“Sheikh Mansour changed my life and that of all the City fans around the world, for that I am forever grateful. A blue nation has arisen and challenged the established order of things, I find that awesome,” he added.

The centre-back had recently made headlines when he scored a stunning long-range goal against Leicester City- one of their toughest opponents in the final stage of the Premier League, which handed them over a crucial win in the title race.

While his goal is still celebrated by City fans as it might arguably have decided the fate of the trophy that time, Kompany once again hit the headlines, however, to the disappointment of the fans.

The defender will return to Anderlecht, his boyhood club as a player-manager, as was confirmed hours after his City exit. Kompany's return will naturally bring joy to the fans as they prefer to call his move as 'the return of the prince'.
