Hospital staff investigated over accessing Sir Alex Ferguson medical records

The legendary Red Devils tactician was treated at the facility for a brain haemorrhage he suffered in May this year.

The longest-serving manager of Manchester United Sir Alex Ferguson had gone down with a brain haemorrhage earlier this year, undergoing a quick surgery in the Salford Royal Hospital. Months after being discharged from the facility, three staff members from the hospital are being investigated for illegally accessing the Scottish manager's medical records. The suspects had no responsibility to Ferguson's recovery as he fought with life and death, according to The Sunday Times.

“We can confirm that a number of staff who work at Salford Royal are currently subject to investigation in relation to an information governance breach," said Dr Chris Brookes, chief medical officer for the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group, which operates the hospital.

"These investigations are ongoing with the individuals concerned and are to determine if they have accessed a patient's record electronically without a clinical requirement or authorisation to do so”.

The Legendary Manchester United manager required an emergency operation in early May after suffering a brain haemorrhage. Millions of fans, former players and various top clubs around the World wished him a speedy recovery.

Sir Alex released a video message in late July, thanking the staff at Salford Royal, and other medics, for assisting him with his recovery.

Sir Alex received a standing ovation by the Old Trafford faithful when he returned as a spectator for the first time since his surgery in May. Sir Alex has now been consistently spotted supporting the team from the VIP Lounge of the stadium during Manchester United games.
