New York Red Bulls set to appoint Thierry Henry as head coach
The financial aspects of the deal are said to be finalised with only the paperwork remaining.
Thierry Henry is said to be appointed as the New York Red Bulls manager next week, Sky Sports has reported. It was revealed earlier this week that the former Arsenal forward is set to join the MLS side.
The former French international started his managerial career as an assistant to Roberto Martinez at the Belgium national team during the World Cup. The Red Devils went on to finish the tournament as semi-finalists, losing to eventual winners France by a scoreline of 1-0.
Henry then signed his first contract as thead-coach with AS Monaco, where he replaced the fan favourite Leonardo Jardim. The Portuguese, who won the Monaco side their first Ligue 1 title in the recent years, wasn't enough to help the Monaco side deal with the outgoings of some of the biggest names in Bernardo Silva, Kylian Mbappe and others as AS Monaco slid down to the relegation zone.
Henry, a former AS Monaco talent was then asked to help the side come out of the relegation battle, but the former Arsenal man wasn't any better. Monaco kept going the opposite way in the table and Henry was out of the position in just three months after acquiring it.

Now the reports have seen him and the Red Bull to be interested in collaborating, providing the 41-year-old with another shot as a first-team coach. The reports even rumour the commercial aspects of the deal to have been finalised by the two parties, with only the final paperwork to be done for which the head of global soccer Oliver Mintzlaff will be flying to London to finalise a deal.
The move ensures that Henry continues to manage his former sides, after having managed AS Monaco for whom he was a player from 1994 to 1999. For the uninitiated, Henry was a player for New York Red Bulls from 2010 to 2014 scoring 52 goals for them in 135 appearances.
