I always told them that I would score a goal like that- Vincent Kompany
It was the Belgian’s first goal for Manchester City this season.
In a game where every Liverpool fan had high hopes of Manchester City dropping points to hand them over a huge boost in the title race, Vincent Kompany caused a major heartbreak for the fans with a stunning long-range strike which turned out to be his side’s winner against Leicester City.
Before the game, Liverpool were two points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side and hoped for Brendan Rodgers, their former manager, who is in-charge of Leicester at the moment, to gift them with a draw or a surprise win.
Until the 70th minute, the teams were in a deadlock, much to the excitement of Liverpool fans, however City skipper Kompany stepped up to hand over a huge win for his side who return to the top of the table, as an extraordinary Premier League title race will head on to its final match day.

This was Kompany’s first goal of the season and it came at such a perfect time! After the game, the Belgium international said it was all down to ‘desire’ and ‘belief’. Scoring from an unbelievable distance of about 40 yards, this was his first goal ever for City from outside the box.
“I always felt like I’m gonna do something. And today was about a little bit of frustration because everyone was saying ‘Don’t Shoot, Don’t Shoot.’”
“I could really hear it and it was actually annoying and then I said ‘hold on a second,’” added Kompany.

“I’ve not come this far in my career to listen to young players telling me whether I should take a shot or not and so I just took it,” he smilingly said.
“For 15 years I’ve been listening to them ‘don’t shoot’ and every time I miss a shot like that, I tell them one day I’m gonna shoot from outside the box and you are gonna be very happy with that one.”

Moreover, Kompany spoke about how it was an important win and that the team had to go beyond the quality they have shown this season. He also praised the Foxes saying, Rodgers has transformed them and it was a really tough game after all.
