Asian Games 2026: India's updated schedule for Day 1 (September 20)
Badminton, hockey, cricket and shooting will be among the top events to watch for India
The Asian Games 2026 are officially underway in Aichi-Nagoya, and the Indian sporting fraternity has its eyes firmly set on the Indian contingent. After winning 106 medals at the 19th edition in Hangzhou 2022, India will be aiming to improve on that in the 20th edition.
On Saturday (September 19), a colourful opening ceremony took place, as India’s 501 talented athletes waved the tricolour gleefully.
Meanwhile, Indian fans inside the packed Paloma Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya, along with millions watching from home, rallied behind the contingent on social media, voicing their support and hoping for another strong showing from the Indian athletes.
The action gets underway on Sunday, September 20, with India set to compete across multiple sports, including wushu, badminton, shooting, table tennis, hockey and cricket.

The opening day could already bring medal success for the Indian contingent, with shooting and wushu offering two key opportunities.
Looking beyond the medal events, India’s campaign on Sunday begins as early as 5:30 AM IST, with the rowing contingent in action across the men’s single sculls, double sculls heats and quarter-finals, men’s pair and women’s four.
Table tennis will also feature two Indian fixtures, with the women’s team group-stage matches scheduled for 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM IST.
Meanwhile, the Indian women’s cricket team will begin its campaign against Bangladesh at 10:30 AM IST.
