MMA and shooting are among the sports that could guarantee medals on Day 2
The Asian Games 2026 are underway in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with the continental showpiece entering Day 2. India enjoyed a productive opening day, securing two medals, and will look to build on that momentum with more podium opportunities on Monday.
On Sunday, both of India’s medals arrived in shooting. The first came in the women’s 10m air rifle team event, where Sonam Uttam Maskar, Elavenil Valarivan and Vidarsa K Vinod combined to win silver.
The Indian trio posted a combined score of 1898.0, while China claimed gold with a world-record total of 1904.2.
As for the second shooting medal, it was again a silver, with Valarivan clinching it in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Individual event. She led for much of the competition but was ultimately edged out in the final round, finishing with 252.4 points as Japan’s Hinata Taichi posted 253.0 to claim gold.

On Day 2, Monday, India will be in action across a wide range of disciplines, including swimming, badminton, mixed martial arts (MMA), hockey, kabaddi, sepak takraw, shooting, table tennis, soft tennis and wushu.
MMA and shooting will provide the country’s primary medal opportunities, with both featuring medal events that could add to India’s tally.
As for MMA, the Women’s Traditional 60kg semi-final bout takes place, with Suchika Tariyal in action. Notably, she has already secured at least a bronze medal by reaching the semi-finals, but will be determined to go one step further and turn it into a silver or gold.
Meanwhile, in shooting, India will be in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle Team final, with Rudrankksh Patil, Himanshu Dhillon and Parth Mane eyeing a podium finish
Beyond this event, India will also have opportunities in several other shooting disciplines, although medal prospects will depend on the shooters successfully navigating the qualification rounds.
