The women’s 4x400m relay gold was India’s first athletics gold of the Asian Games, while Gulveer Singh finished with three individual medals. Parul Chaudhary and several other Indian athletes also contributed multiple medals during the six-day athletics programme.

How did India fare compared to the last Asian Games?

India’s athletics campaign in Aichi-Nagoya produced several memorable performances, but the overall outcome was different from the previous edition in Hangzhou. The 2022 Asian Games had seen India’s track and field athletes dominate the podium across several events, while this time the team had to settle for a larger share of silver and bronze finishes.

One of the biggest talking points was the conversion of medal opportunities into gold. India had multiple athletes finish on the podium again in 2026, but only the women’s 4x400m relay team managed to go all the way to the top. At the same time, the emergence of performances such as Gulveer Singh’s multiple medals, Vithya Ramraj’s national record and strong relay showings provided plenty of positives for the Indian athletics contingent.

What to expect from India next?

With athletics now concluded, the Indian contingent will continue its campaign across several sports at the Asian Games. Archery, boxing, shooting, hockey, squash, tennis, cycling, sailing and volleyball will feature in the programme, with several Indian athletes still in medal contention.

India’s focus will now shift to the remaining knockout stages and medal events as the contingent looks to add to its 53 medal haul.

How many medals did India win in athletics on September 29 at Asian Games 2026?

India won five medals on the final day of athletics at the Asian Games 2026, including one gold and four bronze medals. The women’s 4x400m relay team won gold, while Gulveer Singh, Pooja Singh, the mixed 4x100m relay team and the men’s 4x400m relay team secured bronze.

Who were India’s medal winners in athletics on Day 6 at Asian Games 2026?

India’s medal winners were the women’s 4x400m relay team [Gold], Gulveer Singh [Bronze], Pooja Singh [Bronze], the mixed 4x100m relay team [Bronze] and the men’s 4x400m relay team [Bronze].

What is India’s final athletics medal tally at Asian Games 2026?

India finished the athletics campaign with 24 medals, including one gold, nine silver and 14 bronze medals. The women’s 4x400m relay gold was India’s only athletics gold at the Games.
