Gulveer clinched his third medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Games
India’s Gulveer Singh completed a medal hat-trick at the Asian Games 2026, winning a bronze in the men’s 5000m event at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Tuesday, September 29.
The 28-year-old long-distance runner clocked 13:32.75 to finish third, adding to the two medals he had already claimed at the Aichi-Nagoya Games in the men’s 1500m and 10,000m events respectively.
The men’s 5000m gold was claimed by Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew, who clocked 13:30.79. Japan’s Tomonori Yamaguchi claimed the silver medal with a time of 13:31.43. India’s Avinash Sable did not start in the final.

Tuesday’s 5000m bronze was the third medal claimed by Gulveer in the 20th Asian Games. Earlier, he had claimed the silver medal in the men’s 1500m, clocking 3:36.72. He then added another silver in the men’s 10,000m, clocking 28:29.38.
In total, he won two silver medals and one bronze medal across three distance-running events.

This marked his fourth Asian Games medal overall, having won a bronze medal in the men’s 10,000m at the Hangzhou 2022 Games.
This year, Gulveer made history by winning two medals at the Commonwealth Games 2026: a silver in the men’s 10,000m and a bronze in the men’s 5000m.
Gulveer also won two medals at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships, both gold medals, establishing himself as one of the top long-distance runners on the continent.
