Asian Games 2026: Gulveer Singh wins silver in men’s 10,000m

Gulveer Singh clinched his second Asian Games medal

India’s Gulveer Singh clinched the silver medal in the men’s 10,000m final at the Asian Games 2026 on Friday, September 25. The 28-year-old Indian athlete finished second at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium with a time of 28:29.38.

It was a brilliant performance from Gulveer, who clinched his second successive Asian Games medal, following a bronze medal at the Hangzhou 2022 Games.

The Uttar Pradesh athlete stayed in medal contention throughout the 25-lap race, staying ahead of world No. 22 Yamato Yoshii of Japan and Wenjie Wang of China.

The gold medal was clinched by the reigning champion, Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew, who clocked 28:27.51. Bahrain’s Albert Kiptoo clocked 28:34.38 and finished third, clinching bronze.

Gulveer Singh improves on Hangzhou bronze

Gulveer, already considered one of the best long-distance runners in the country, has added to his medal tally in 2026. He had earlier clinched bronze at the Hangzhou 2022 Games, ending India’s 25-year wait for an Asiad medal in the event.

Now, with his performance at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, Gulveer has become the first Indian athlete to win two Asian Games medals in the 10,000m event. He also has a gold medal in the event from the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea.

This year, he clinched a silver medal in the 10,000m event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 – the first Indian to achieve this feat. He also became the only Indian athlete to win two track and field medals in one CWG edition, adding a bronze in the 5,000m event.
